Arab guy got SWATed by hotel desk clerk.

I'm guessing this narrative of this alleged terrible runaway Islamophobia. Some random hotel clerk had a panic attack and the cops responded to the call as they are required too. Thought the cops actually were pretty professional here all things considered,
The cops are not required to respond with assault rifles. The police chief and the mayor have already apologized for their conduct.

Ugh how do you expect them to respond when somebody calls in that there is a guy on a cellphone pledging allegiance to ISIS? They do not know that's not true, especially when they received multiple calls about it. It's an unfortunate incident but I don't think the cops did anything wrong here. The girl made the mistake but she seemed like she was genuinely terrified

The last two paragraphs read ...
Quote:
Yesterday, the city and and the city's police department issued a statement of apology to al-Menhali for the incident.
Charges, Jensen said, would likely be issued tomorrow in response to the false accusation against al-Menhali, and that the incident was being investigated.
Well, someone is about to get arrested and lose her job over a hate crime.Charges, Jensen said, would likely be issued tomorrow in response to the false accusation against al-Menhali, and that the incident was being investigated.
Good riddance.

It was a hoax. Read the entire article, these two sentences in particular ...Quote:
no weapons of any kind were found on the man. Officers spoke to the hotel's front desk clerk. That's when officers learned the man did not make any statements related to ISIS.
... now take your racism elsewhere.I think you should read the entire article, and look up the definition of hoax.
This looks more like a woman had some sort of mental breakdown. Her sister only called on her behalf. No racism here, just a sick woman in need of help, not jail.
I think people should lower their standards when it comes to racist behavior.
Racism is not only about white cops shooting black teenagers; it's also about white people reporting brown-skinned, Arabic-speaking Muslims as terrorists just because some actual terrorists happened to also be brown-skinned, Arabic-speaking Muslims. That is called "Racial Profiling", and it's no less a form of racism than a white cop stopping a black teenager "on suspicion" just because some other black teenagers caused trouble in the past.
Denying obviously racist behavior only encourages more racist behavior.

If this turns out to be an elaborate, malicious hoax, sure. But I don't think it will be.
On the other hand we see what can happen when people don't report actual crime for fear of being branded racist, so racial profiling itself is a tricky subject.

Yeah.
-we've killed millions of Muslims over the last twenty five years
-bombed their homelands
-burned/peed on their Korans
-the new evil people in movies are Muslims (London has Fallen, Eye in the Sky. American Sniper, Zero Dark Thirty...)
-if a bomb goes off, people ask , "Muslim, right?"
Muslims scare the heck out of people.
We've been warring with them all my life.
My mom still says things like, "You don't cross those people, or they'll behead you".
This is not about racism, but genuine fear.

Is that how they should of responded in Orlando or San Bernardino too?
Have you ever had a gun pointed at you? How about from a cop? I have, it really doesn't matter if it's an AR-15 or his service pistol. Cops come guns drawn all the time.
