they have an imperialistic mindset, but they're not "globalistic" like the u.s. communism is over. they are probably the #1 polarizing force in eurasia on both sides of the caucasus and on many different matters between different players, having a significant role in almost every major military/political development in a very large area of the continent around them (for one thing, i believe the "cold threat" that they represent does have a major role and will keep having a major role in the development of eu politics). but that's eurasia, not the americas

and just like someone would have to be really stupid to declare war on them, they're not stupid either. they know better than to upset whatever balance that they've been stealthily promoting. that's how they operate. nuclear weapons just give them a license to do it, and that's it

This is what I'm saying. Except the US is very much tied up in other world powers, and not just Europe.

And?

What does that mean to you? Why does that equate to a likelihood of war with Russia?

We won't have a war with directly with Russia....but there's the potential for another "Cold War" sort of situation because of Putin's expansionist plans. Sides will be taken.

I have a strange suspicion Putin wants to restore the USSR.

I'm actually just going to stop talking about this. It bothers me a great deal to argue with people, especially people who I would call my friends. Sorry if I irritated or upset you.

I don't see the US practicing brinskmanship in Europe.

I don't see the US as continuously belligerent and imperialist toward Russia.

Regardless of whether we think about it or not, the possibility of nuclear annihilation is always hanging over our heads and has been continuously since the cold war. Nothing the US has done has returned us to a Cold War and Putin's showy BS, flying bombers all over the place with their transponders off, moving tens of thousands of men on exercises clearly designed to simulate invasion of their neighbors, etc. has not actually thrown us back into the Cold War either. Putin is doing a lot for his domestic audience, and a lot because he has the instincts of a tyrant--the US did not make him that way.

There is no rational analogy between the Cuban missile crisis and events in the Ukraine today. Russia is a country, not a person and thus has no particular feeling about it. Individual Russians have a range of reactions to that situation, only some of which are approving of Putin's response.

I think it is a perfect comparison, we're are moving NATO further and further east placing nuclear weapons on Russia's doorstep so naturally they will be upset. NATO does plenty of flexing themselves as well, there are two sides to this story.

Hypothetically would you start WWIII if Russia invaded Estonia which isn't going to happen but lets say it did, are you ready to end it all? I'm not, simply it's not our problem and we should look for ways to work Russia so we don't have to have this sword constantly hanging above us. We have a common enemy in Islamic extremism and Putin is no worse than a lot of our so called allies.

Here's my question... Would you start WWII if Germany invaded Austria? ...or wait for Poland?

Sweetheart, we cannot have a unilateral peace.

PS

To the OP, I'm with Trump on this one. Screw those little pink bastards!

And I'm pretty sure she's completely taken, so no-- the Trump Hates Babies thread is not the place to hit on a taken women who's just voiced her intention to leave the discussion. I'm actually not chastising, I'm kind of laughing because I view this as one of those "missed social cues" of autism-- the kind the majority of us suffer from here.

Anyhow, to keep the discussion on track: Trump doesn't hate babies, he merely dislikes it when they cry while he's self aggrandizing and attempting to perform his function as Putin's toadie.

I did it because I'm pretty sure this thread is a sinking ship anyway.

And, taken by you? Sorry if so.

Probably not, just like in real life. Anschluss wasn't opposed and more or less cheered on by Austria who German peoples. It was not until Germany declared war on US in conjuncture with Japan that the US officially became involved in the war in Europe. We should of never gotten involved WWI and if we hadn't do that then there probably would of never been a Nazi takeover of Germany.

We can have unilateral whatever we want, the US has enough nukes and the most powerful military in history to defend itself against any and all aggressors. The US is in another hemisphere, oceans away, I think most Americans want to get off foreign oil and produce all our energy domestically and that way we won't be beholden to deal with the instability in the Middle East. If somebody wants to be a protectorate of the United States then that should be the relationship, that is essentially what NATO is rather than a real mutual defense pact. To continue this relationship then they need to pay up otherwise they need to be prepared to go their own.

Get Russia in our camp as opposed to China, this is becoming a multipolar world and the US can not go it alone with deadbeat wimps as allies.

That's true in theory but he keeps doing stuff that does warrant new threads.

Lol, no. I just remember her mentioning her family in another thread a few months back. Like I said-- I find it humorous. Take my previous post as "snarky", not serious, lol.

I take it as humorous in a good way. And your memory of her post three months back rivals my aspie memory. I'm the guy who has to stop himself from quoting a person, and saying "This was six months and fourteen days ago when you said that Donald Trump was a -" and then I stop.
