:)

that was my immediate response, really. only now that you asked i'm actually thinking of reasons why. but i can think of two main reasons:

1) i don't want to be remembered. it makes no difference once i'm dead, but it's an ability i want to retain in life. so i don't like the thought. it doesn't matter if people actually remember or will remember me, as long as i don't know about it, and that's the important part to me

2) private content would probably upset almost everybody, and publicly available content would be a very limited and probably meaningless representation of me

both also apply as "vice-versa"

I think it's a good idea. Those who want it can use it for as long as they wish, the rest of their life if that is what is correct for them, and that is no ones business but their own, and those who don't will never have to. Let people grieve like they do and for however long they need.

I think those reminders are a good idea, yes. I feel it would be healthier for the bereaved person to hear that caution every so often -- "Remember though, I'm just an algorrhythm based on your loved one" or words to that effect. Grief can be such a complicated and profound matter, and it can also mess with a person's head just all by itself, so that's why I worry that something like this might "mess even more" so to speak. Have a watch of "Transcendence" -- I saw it recently on TV and felt it had an interesting take on this very idea. Tell me what you think once you've seen it; it's very apt to this topic, I think you'll find!

I would make the reminders come once every half-hour. and I added transcendence to my Netflix queue :)
If there were reminders programmed into it, it should be possible to program it to be however people want, including never come at all.

Too bad there is no such thing as a holodeck program where one can be with versions of them again.

I suppose that could eventually be made to work in the hands of a good visual animator with at least one good photo as source material, plus a recording of the decedent's voice.
