Lindsey as you know doubt know Trump has won the Election. It is up to people like you in the Senate to oppose his inhumane policies of banning muslim immigration and killing families of terrorists. I am from New Zealand but we are counting on people like you to do their job well in the legislature.

not gonna work. the people who voted for rump gave him a mandate to do precisely those things.
No but Republican moderates have the ability to block his policies in the House and the Senate. And as we know most Americans actually disagree with these policies Trump only came into power because people hated Hillary.

a word to the wise, the GOP purged itself of all moderates. there are only hard-core GOPers now. the TP has taken over the party. the GOP will block absolutely nothing trump does, they are his rubber-stamp legislature just like putin has his rubber-stamp legislature. trump is American putin.
No the moderates are their its just a matter of whether they will stick to their principles or work with Trump on those policies for political gain to get reelected.

they are not true moderates, just not nutjobs like the majority. they are thoroughly marginalized in their own party and have prices on their heads [TP primary challenges] if they deviate from party discipline. an authoritarian minority [59 million, approx.] of amuuuricans imposed this mess on the rest of us.
And they occupy seats in the Senate. It doesn't matter what the people think so long as Senators like Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins occupy seats in the legislature they will be able to thwart Trump's policies by working with Democrats. Remember the GOP only has a narrow majority.

the straight dope is that the GOP is gonna ashcan filibuster rule to allow simple majority, so they can roll over the dems and shove their toxic agenda down our throats. the people who voted for this will soon rue their choice just as Britons who voted for brexit are now having second thoughts. all I can say about them is that they made their bed and should just sleep in it and not squawk about it as though they had nothing to do with it.

The republicans will be able to do many of the economic policies they propose. But my hope is that enough moderate senators join with Democrats to prevent the worst of Trump's agenda from passing through.

No we are only getting started. In 2018 the Democratic party has real opportunity to win both houses of congress which Hillary Clinton was unable to do and in 2020 to win the presidency. Nothing is screwed.

gerrymandering has at least until 2022 to lock in GOP majority in congress. in the senate, the removal of filibuster will enable the worst GOP damage to be enacted before the democrats can take over [should enough americans wake up] and by then it will be too late to undo the damage the GOP does to America. you are from New Zealand, a comparatively civilized and evolved people compared to America, I sincerely hope you don't catch the American virus. I want hope to survive in your nation.

And look in 2006 and 2008 the Democratic Party caught massive majorities in both houses of Congress. A similar backlash against Trump at this stage as actually really likely.

the GOP gerrymandered house is insulated against a democratic takeover. the senate could switch hands, however, if enough americans wake up. but not before at least one borkian troglodyte gets a lifetime berth in the SCOTUS.

Really, at this point I'm less worried about Trump than the idiots online he's helped unleash. I'm serious, everywhere I look on Facebook or Twitter, just hundreds of comments left by Trumpers telling people leave the US since "we're not a socialist country", telling tales of Black Lives Matter beating up white people and rampaging like it's The Warriors (I love the movie and the game, just to point that out) when I have never heard or seen any reliable evidence for that (as in stuff that doesn't look like fake clickbait and can be independently verified), or calling others "liberals", "crybabies", I can go on. And tried leaving comments back, for example the hypocrisy of being against violent protest unless it was against Clinton, or the stupidity of being so smug and mocking when they're the ones spending the day trolling online "losers", but I stopped because, quite frankly, this is a cycle and waste of my time I'm tired of being involved in. The internet is general has just become hostile to anyone with even a smidgen of "leftist" dissent or articles.

QFT. tell it. at least in my family we have a mutual agreement to not discuss politics or any other contentious thing, we discuss innocuous things only. I sure wish there was a block button on WP like there is on FB.

There's a new report saying Russian officials talked with Trump camp members. I honestly hope an investigation is going on. Who knows.. maybe Russia did hack the election somehow. We can't be so sure just yet, in my view. Plus let's not forget- Trump was whining rigged for so long, so its only fair to the democrats that they check to make sure its NOT rigged in Trump's favor.

democrats seem to have their tail between their legs now and won't pursue anything. I just know there was cheating, especially since GOP states closed over 400 polling places primarily in poor areas.

I am more upset about politics bring out the worst in a lot of people.

It seems like nobody can have an intelligent conversation about the big issues.

It's either (a) "Agree with me, or else you're a Bible-thumping bigot", or (b) "Agree with me, or else you're an amoral Commie Islamist heathen". Or the worst one, "If you voted for (anyone other than the candidate I wanted), unfriend me now."

I would *never* end a friendship because someone disagreed with me. Yes, I voted for Gary Johnson, but only to absolve myself from the shitstorm that has erupted since Nov. 8.

I would agree it seems to many people we have this perception that the other side is racist, sexist and embodies bad values. What can be really bad is when we see a friend or family member on the other side and we begin to associate with those traits. It creates a level of alienation and from personal experience also drives people apart. People sometimes have got to get used to another side having a different perspective and accept it as frustrating as it may be.

Perhaps he won't carry through with most of the rash things he said he'd do in order to get elected, and will moderate his stances.

For example, he can't literally build a wall on the Mexican border...
