Well now we have more accurate nukes with lower yields because they are guaranteed to strike within feet in the double digits in most cases so there's that to be thankful for, I guess. Putin is well within his rights to expand his arsenal to combat this dodgy 'shield' that can be filled and interpreted two ways plonked across from his border, he's not the aggressor and is simply seeking to reinforce his adherence to mutually assured destruction yet we hear about 'russia building more nukes grr!' He even said openly it's the cheaper option and he needs to maintain the balance so he feels his country is secure. I don't interpret Trump as issuing a threat to Russia, the threat is already there in bold, neon blaring letters, america's arsenal, power projection and commitment to maintaining delivery systems for the doom devices spells out 'lose-lose but we're ready to play if you are'... I was much more concerned about Clinton's foreign policy tenure and ceaselessly antagonistic rhetoric toward Russia. Theresa May said not too long ago she wouldn't hesitate to obliterate a threat to the united kingdom, she is committed to defend the united kingdom, just as Trump was suggesting a nuclear holocaust would be horrific if he felt he had to use them to defend the united states.

1. The ship in the photo actually isn't an "intelligence-gathering ship", but an Udaloy class destroyer. Wasn't there a photo of the actual ship that they could have placed above that unnecessarily sensationalist and scaremongering article?

3. "Russia's increasing aggression". WHAT increasing aggression?! Do they mean the army manoeuvres they conducted within their own country in response to the N.A.T.O. deployment (including German panzers) just outside of Leningrad/St. Petersburg?
4. Operating in international waters. INTERNATIONAL waters. Anyone can go there, for any reason or none.

No, I wouldn't consider anyone who behaved this way to be "rational". Just the opposite, in fact. Rational people don't allow their emotions to control them, so becoming "afraid" would not be consistent.

My thoughts exactly. There are moments where I do respect the man (now and then at least), but he just can't seem to channel the whole presidential & composed fearless leader vibe. I actually expected him to at least play the part because that's what he's done in the past when necessary for a deal.

I guess that's one thing I can say nice about him, he's just too darn honest sometimes. Who'd have thunk it?

In any case, as long as Putin believes that the world is more stable/profitable with an only slightly inferior West, we should have nothing to really worry about. After-all, he still needs a long time to siphon enough wealth into Russia before it would even remotely make sense to just utterly destroy the wealthiest country. If there were some theoretical nuclear holocaust, and against all odds, Russia remained completely unscathed while America was obliterated (in a way that wouldn't eventually contaminate Russia), and assuming the rest of the world was willing to sit idly by, Russia would still be nearly broke.

There might be all this talk of us vs them, but even though that can still be dangerous, Russia still needs us as a sort of penny bank, so to speak.
