I see nothing wrong with a woman of any age going topless in the same circumstances that a man might - and in the same style of dress. I doubt that you see many shirtless men walking around city streets wearing only a thong and it wouldn't be appropriate for a woman to either. But at the beach, in the garden ....

A previous poster stated that fully exposed breasts have been sexualized. Sadly, fully covered ones have been too. They are just another body part. Men have them too. Women have the ability to feed children with theirs.

I don't see a problem with public nudity as long as it's being done in such a way as not to interfere with safety or health.

I think, if they would like to be regarded as women, in the traditional sense, they should portray themselves as such.

People, going around naked, when there is most definitely a sexual context, makes everything creepy and Bacchanalian, and I have no intention of actually impregnating the FEMEN types, who are so clearly unmarriageable.

Adam and Eve would have been ignorant, before eating the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. They did not know right from wrong. When you see the extreme, anitsocial acts, being committed by naked change agents, they clearly intend to do wrong.

I am curious as to what you mean by women being regarded in a traditional sense? Traditional meaning sexual? I don't understand.

In the first wave of feminism, women just wanted what they would need, to fulfill their roles as wives and mothers.

There is a sort of mutual exchange, between men and women, in which either side of the discussion is providing benefits for the other.

With comforts, come with duties.

I feel that empowered women want all the privileges, of being protected, but not with any of the moral responsibilities.

I feel good about this ruling. I've been one for equality for many years, so I can give a thumbs up to this decision. I hate this stupid and unfair double standard.....

No one wants you to stare at them, no one cares about your opinion of how they should dress or not. Nudity does not hurt anyone. People can look at each other without staring.

Nah, I live in the UK. If we want equality make the men put tops on. I don't wanna see their pasty bodies once a year when we have a hot day.

Some primitive cultures also take a piss or crap right in the moment, we want that too? Natural is not necessarily good in social situations of advanced civilization. Some primitive cultures still practice cannibalism for bob's sake. I do not hold truck with "ancient societies did it, so we can too" theories
And sorry I will go with the "body shamers" by saying showing off charms is a privilege (regardless of gender) , not a right (like spandex). Their right to "show the goods" ends where I my right o control what my children see in public and prevention of gag reflex begins.

Hmmm I think this type of thinking can apply to grown adults...no problems...we should be mature enough to tolerate a woman's freedom to express themselves

The problem here is with two groups i) young teenage boys/young men and ii) men who have poor self-control. For these groups exposure of female breasts is a form of "sexualisation" (whether we like it or not) which may be psychologically (or even physically) harmful to the woman/girl and also harmful to the male. Young men are mostly taught to respect women but that becomes difficult when they are staring at physical attributes they would normally discretely view on internet porn.

I also still think being "legal" and exposing yourself in a public place such as a shopping mall or airport are incompatible. In the latter scenarios the topless female would last all of 2-5min max before they are arrested. I doubt the feminist philosophical argument is going to "fly" when you have outraged parents with children and squeamish adults offended by what they are seeing.

This is probably the biggest issue that postmodern feminism hasn't dealt with. Female body dissatisfaction is prevalent in the western world. Social media has thrust idealised female body types in our faces. A staggering statistic suggests 75% of all young females in western countries are unhappy about their bodies. Imagine if in the future it became fashionable to walk around topless in summertime. The added pressure on young girls to look physically attractive will go up exponentially to keep up leading to depression and suicide.

Feminism unfortunately can't cure psychological social pressure to conform.

I always thought this kind of topless liberation was young egocentric liberal feminists trying to get inside the discussion about breastfeeding in public. At least I think in Brazil this discussion grew from the breastfeeding discussion.

It seem such a superficial and pointless thing. It won't change anything in practice if a female body is still sexualized and even is legal, it isn't socially acceptable to walk around topless – in most situations, for both genders.

If it becomes legal I bet TV shows will be full of topless scenes, just because they can.

Imagine a co-ed version of "Lord of the Flies," resulting in pregnancies. Pregnant women and young children are incapable of survivalism. Whose problem is it.

The sanctity of family is supposed to provide secular benefits, to society, which become perfectly clear, when someone is forced to abide by objective morality.

Assuming that you could not redistribute my wealth, by force, whose problem is it -- topless, raucous abortion activists, who don't like to shave. Let's say they have a right to their opinion, for the sake of discussion. They have a right to exist. How do they materially support themselves, without taking from anyone else.

Good Lord, you have a sad view of women. I think you may be overestimating the value of the "protection" men have to offer.
