^^^same for me, only I was awake.

I was doing something in my room music/deejay related with sound equipment. Mom entered the room to inform me of what she just heard on the news. That PD had just died in a traffic accident in a tunnel, and that "it seems to have been caused by the paparazzi chasing after her". Both she and I were too stunned by the news to have any reaction besides being surprised. My girlfriend was a big long time fan of PD though.

Somrbody said "Princess Di Died". I thought that person was joking by using a play on words.

I remember where I was when 9/11 happened.

Princess Diana was a nice lady. For some reason, though, I don't remember where I was when she was killed. Saying this, it was a terrible way to go for Diana.

I was going to go out for a run that morning but switched on the TV for a while. It was just being reported as breaking news. So shocked that I didn't go for my run at all that day.

I can't say for sure, but I strongly suspect I was smoking pot with my neighbor in his garage.

Technically yesterday, August 31st, yes. I was at home watching TV that evening, when news broke in that there had been an accident in Paris.

At first, the news was she had only been injured. Then later it was confirmed she died.

I was utterly shocked at the tragedy of it all. I did cry, and I watched the funeral coverage and yes I was in tears. I have had tragedy in my life and it has sensitized me to it in a way I never used to be when I was younger.

I felt the Royal Family acted very cold about the whole thing.

I'm not a conspiracy theory person but I would not be at all surprised if it every came out that they actually wanted to set things up so that something like this might happen. I'm not going to argue about that -- I'm not married to the idea but I'm saying I wouldn't put ANYTHING past that bunch of jerks. Not a fan of the royals per se.

I felt for Diana because I think she was treated like a piece of s**t by that family, who are cold and toxic and hidebound.

Oddly I had also been going through a deteriorating marriage at about the same time as hers was collapsing, and I related a tiny bit.

I went to Kensington Palace yesterday on the anniversary. 20 years ago I was living 5,000 miles away or I would have been there then. So now that I'm back in the 'hood I went yesterday.

It was a surprisingly upbeat, nice, calm atmosphere among the crowd there. NOBODY cried -- everyone was just very calm and it felt like it was more about quietly appreciating her now, at this point. It was lovely to be there and I really enjoyed the day.

Nobody wants Charles as King. Lot of people hope he steps aside and it's William.

How come they don't like Charles, but they like William?

The most important part of Diana's death remains her letter about a "planned accident" to her butler, Paul Burrell ( http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho ... 18671.html ). Unless he manufactured the letter himself or conspired to have others do it for him, it is quite convincing and damning.

I understand that Burrell has made some poor choices in his professional and public relations since then, but again, the letter exists in Diana's handwriting.

They like William because she's Diana's son and he seems to express a more warm and human and hands-on version of British royalty than we've ever seen before, and it's attributed to Diana's determination to instill those things in her boys.

I mean he's still "establishment" at the end of the day, but people like him because he seems more modern -- he has talked openly about mental health, depression, his own grief about his mother.

The Queen has apparently been more or less wishing he'd shut the fck up, lmao. She doesn't want him to be this open with the public.

I say bring in the new.

People don't like Charles because of two categories of reason -- one is obviously the people who side with Diana's end of the stick, and resent Charles for never really having loved her, for cheating on her FIRST, (and it was HE who cheated on her FIRST), and basically just for being the cold husband who told her to pull herself together rather than facing the real issues.

That whole family GASLIGHTED this girl (and she was a girl then).

Anyway, back to the question. Most of Britain more or less thinks Charles is a total twit. Not many like Camilla. That couple are tainted with the bad feelings people have about the sham of a marriage Diana was put through. She was a lamb to the slaughter when he should have just married Camilla all along.

Polls taken seem to show that many people just wish Charles would step away and let William come after the Queen.
