Teen sex slave jailed for killing her abuser
I second Kara; yuck. Good night.
You appear to be mixing up contract law with criminal law.
1. Contract law is not applicable here, because contracts of illegal activities are not enforceable.
2. Contracts with minors are one-way enforceable by the minor.
However, the court records state she "agreed" to have sex with him for money. Her agreement is "consent".
Her "consent" was used against her in court.
It's not "callous", rather, it's the facts.

He wasn't that innocent if he went to a prostitute who was in it against her will.
I feel sorry for her. As an abuse survivor, the only thing worse than the abuse itself is the invalidation. She was trafficked into the sex industry, those responsible are the ones who should be in prison, not her.

I have been watching women behind bars and our system has failed some of these women. The law doesn't want to help or protect you. ![]()

So I was correct in thinking that the title of the thread is a lie.
She never harmed her abuser. She murdered a man (who was guilty of a crime that did not deserve the death penalty) in order to SERVE her abuser (the guy who pimped her out- the actual oppressor). Very different story from the one advertised in the title of this thread.
Yes she was a child (probably abused at home and ran away), and yes she was on drugs, and yes she has been a model prisoner since. So maybe she deserves freedom now after years of time served. But because the OP lied about the situation in the title of the thread its a bait-and-switch that pisses off the reader. Don't lie again OP! It works against persuading the reader to your cause.
Yes I understand now her actual abuser (a pimp called Kutt-throat) is still being protected by the Tennessee police as he rapes and abuses other underaged girls. I imagine he must find it amusing that a child he plied with drugs and raped is now serving time behind bars while he cruises the streets of Nashville preying on other young homeless children. But I guess that's another story.
I have now read a previous article published before and The girl was technically 16 at the time and alleged the "john" kept guns on his property and she alleged she felt unsafe and thought he was going to kill her.
The prosecution ignored the girls testimony or her age or circumstance and concocted a scenario whereby the girl intended to rob the "John" and where she "lied" about her age and voluntarily shot the "john" while he was sleeping.
They intended to demonstrate she was dangerous even though she had no history prior violence? (although she was subject to it)
Even if she intended to kill the man there are mitigating circumstances identifed by her psychiatrist that should not have put her in maximum security for life
1. her age (she is a child)
2. Her history suggests she was vunerable to drugs as she as diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome spectrum as her mother was severely alcoholic when she was born
3. her condition made it impossible to live in foster care and her foster parents were not equipped to handle a child with this condition
4. her vunerabilty was used by Kutt-throat who found her on the streets and plied her with drugs when she was 14 yr old runaway
5. As a child who was abused and drugged she can't consent to working as a sex worker
6. her john could easily identify thr risk that she was a child but probably chose to sleep with her because he wanted a younger prostitute
My guess an unbiased judge would have taken all the information into consideration and put her in juvenile penitentiary and given her a chance to rehab, The proof of the pudding is that even though she was put in maximum security she has managed to get a university degree in prison and is bettering herself.
Whatever excuses people here want to make the Tennessee judicial system stuffed up and (I suspect) disregarded her civil rights (I know why) in treating her as an adult charged with 1st degree murder rather than as a child who at worst should have been charged with manslaughter.

I can't help but wonder if you would get similar responses to this thread if we were talking about an abused and trafficked white girl. Somehow I doubt it.
The Tenessee social services failed the girl by putting her in foster care without considering her psychiatric state or checking if the foster parents were suitable/equipped to handle her. The fact she became a runaway at 14 means the Tenessee government had failed her when she was most vulnerable.
Secondly the judge in her case has fallen hook line and sinker for the prosecution case. He must have been a particularly ignorant individual to ignore the psychiatrist but then this is the deep south where he most likely carries old redneck values. A black girl killing a white man probably feeds his confirmation bias about everything he learned from his parents about African Americans that they are dangerous and criminal. He was happy to throw the book at her ignoring mitigating circumstances thus ignoring laws as they apply to minors, if this was escalated to a federal level outside the redneck boundary of Tenessee I suspect this ruling would have been overturned and Tonoia would have been treated as a juvenile rather than an adult.

If I'm not mistaken black boys and girls are much more likely to be charged as adults in the American judicial system than white boys and girls.

Yes, nasty little surprises awaiting young African American juvenile offenders in the white dominated courts. We have a similar situation for aboriginal juveniles in Australia who are over-represented in the prison system.
The case of Tonoia Brown also illustrates the danger of judicial system behaving purely as a punitive instrument rather than one that takes into account the rehabilitation prospects of a juvenile offender. If for no other reason including economic reasons it would have been cheaper for the state of Tenesee to rehabilitate her so she could be a contributing tax paying member of society rather than creating yet another victim which costs the tax payer more money
Regardless of that it still doens't make him abusive because it was consentual. She wasn't forced to have sex with him directly maybe by circumstances but that's still not force. And she still could have ran away from the situation and IDK not KILL SOMEONE!! !! !! !! SHE MADE THE CHOICE TO PULL THE TRIGGER. and if they watn to argue they shouold be argueing on the pimp not the person who got murdered. Also The title is completely misleading because a prositute getting jailed for killing the person who they sold their sex to, and then stole their stuff is not the same as a teen sex slave jailed for killing her abuser.. It's ridiculous to label the person who had sex with the prositute as and abuser while they still were doing something illegal it doesn't make them liable to be killed and then labeled and abuser if anything they should be blaming it on the pimp. Not to mention that you dind't bring up much of the backstory. They ran away from home and got into that business they are responsible for theirs actions. It's not like anyone forces them to pull the trigger. they pulled it out o their own free will.

A 14-16 year old girl cannot consent to being sexually trafficked. Only adults can consent to sex with other adults--children cannot consent. A child who has been raped her whole life does not psychologically have the capacity to consent to sex work. She ran away from rape and abuse, and was found by another rapist abuser. That is why statutory rape and sexual abuse laws exist, because children aren't capable of giving consent to have sex with adults. It's rather sad (and a bit frightening) how many people don't seem to understand that.
An adult who has sex with a child is absolutely an abuser, under ANY circumstances. What is wrong with you people that you can't see that? Is this forum populated by pedophiles or something?
Yes that was also obvious to me but the judge (and some users here on WP) seem to believe the prosecution case that the girl lied about her age and therefore the "john" thought it was ok to have sex with her.
One quick look at her as a 16 yr old makes it obvious she looks like a kid. I find it disturbing that if a child walks up to a grown man then the man is (supposedly) entitled to have sex with them if they use the excuse "they look older". That argument hasn't worked for some pedophiles here in Australia so it's a lame excuse.
In any case older married men should not be trawling the streets looking for schoolgirls

Like who? The 14 year old child you're responding to? The woman who's been the most outspoken regarding this?
Some facts:
1. She denied having sex with the man she killed.
2. She shot this guy in the back of his head at close range.
3. The victim was found on his bed, face-down.
4. She stole his money, some guns, and his truck too.
5. Apparently, she took $50,000 from the man.
6, She asked her friend "Reed" to help "clean out his house". Reed declined though, saying he didn't think she killed anyone.
7. She was convicted of first degree premeditated murder, felony murder, and aggravated robbery.
6. The penalty for "first degree murder" in TN is death or life in prison, see here, http://statelaws.findlaw.com/tennessee- ... urder.html
