Trickle Down has never worked in the past, but yet it gets votes again and again because the big companies put people in office, and it's payback. Politicians make out that they are public servants but it always ends up with "You scratch my back, I'll put a knife in yours".

UBI will never happen here, too much systemic corruption to get past. IMHO America is past the point of repair.

Maybe that's for the best & states like California will actually secede & the USA will no longer be United.

I hope to the dickens that Washington state can join California, or mebbe BC. that would be my backdoor way into being a Canadian citizen or resident, at least. but I've long thought that a divided house [like Lincoln said] cannot stand. since slavery joined the picture, our union was ultimately untenable.

If we in Washington and Oregon join with California, maybe we can call ourselves Pacifica!

Something like this has been considered for many years & the proposed name has been Cascadia.

Dagnabbit, I knew I never should have left Eugene.

If I sell my home - which is actually a doublewide, but it looks like a house, feels like one, and certainly works like one, and I own it free and clear. Too big to take with me, though, even cleft in twain (28 x 62).

I'm on the east coast, but the last time I lived in Eugene, I moved out there from Rochester NY, with cats, so meh.

Actually have been toying with the idea of moving back to the Left Coast for awhile.

?

They have RIT, U of Rochester, Kodak, and the place I worked, and some of the worst pizza I've ever eaten in my life (open can of tomato paste. Spread paste on dough disc. Bake disc and paste until paste is slightly charred. Put dry mushroom slices on top. Charge money for this. I do not jest.)

Oh, I think you mean Rochester MN. Yeah, they have the Mayo, which would go nicely on the lousy pizza.

I stayed in Henrietta a couple of times, right off exit 46 on I-90.

I saw the Rochester skyline from a distance, though I was never actually in the city.

Mucho farmland, mucho big pickup trucks.

You are correct.

When the rich get extra money, it doesn't "trickle down".

They use it to fund pro-business politicians, in order to make even more money.

America has always been in a struggle between democracy and plutocracy. For most of American history, plutocracy has won, though democracy may soon win if the rich fail in their attempts to shut down a free and open internet.

This struggle between between democracy and plutocracy is inevitable in any society which attempts to be democratic. A democracy will inevitably become plutocratic unless legal barriers against this are created via populaist action.
