Same level of irresponsible government that legalises guns
I don't really think guns should be illegal nor that legalizing them instantly results in injuries to kids. They're legal here (but access is more restricted than in the USA) and we don't have anywhere near the same rate of kids getting shot or kids misusing firearms. Even w/o googling for the numbers, as Canadians we own ~1/3 as many guns as Americans, but we don't have anywhere near 1/3 as many gun crimes. Shooting other people is a very American problem & I think the reasons for it are very complex.

I don't know what the story is with this girl but nevertheless, this report brought back some sad memories.
Interesting perspective.
I have sympathy for victims of bullying, but not for school shooters.
The difference is that once they take action to shoot people, they're no longer victims, they're perpetrators.
There are many other paths to dealing with being mistreated by people besides murdering them.

tons of kids daydream about blowing up their school, or at least beating the playground bully to a bloody pulp.
acting on those more violent desires reflects a deeper level of disturbance altogether.
IMO "victimhood" ends when you take an innocent life.

I dunno if there's an age restriction even now. Kids are allowed to fire guns under adult supervision. Heck, there was that ~12yo girl that accidentally killed a gun range instructor when the gun recoiled back and shot him. It was a freak accident & not the kid's fault, but it happened.
It was certainly much more common a couple generations ago for young kids, especially boys, to be taught how to shoot guns. Like ~6-8 year olds. I bet it was also more common around the world, too, when people lived in more rural/country environments vs. city. I bet it still is common in many parts of the USA away from coastal cities, especially given that they have the highest gun ownership rates on the planet. Shooting guns is just a think Americans do. Because America! That's why.

Just skimmed this article. Makes sense. Basically mass shootings are so commonplace in present day America that people hardly bat an eye anymore. There have been at least 7 school shootings and at least 22 shootings of 4 or more people in the USA so far this year - in one month.

Personally, I think it's more of a numbers game than anything & these are the numbers that matter:
More guns, more gun problems. Seems like there's a direct correlation.
But still, this particular gun violence phenomenon seems to occur significantly more in the USA than anywhere else. Why?
Geographic proximity to other events resulting in copycats?Those gun ownership numbers are skewed, it’s not even that high in my state (nicknamed the GunShine State). Most households that own a gun, have more then one. I personally have over double digits, not going to give an exact number though.
Ultimately we have a people problem, not a tool problem.

Could have been a shotgun that accidentally discharged one shell when the girl dropped the gun for all we know.. there are such things as accidental shootings, either by human error, some act of God, or any sort of mechanical failure or faulty ammunition.
