I have a profound dislike of so-called xtians who say that poverty is a sign that god 1]doesn't like you, and 2] has predestined you to burn in hell. Pat Robertson [among many others] is on this track.

I would say they got there teaching a bit wrong.

There is a Verse that a lot of Christians like to twist and that is Judged Not let’s you be Judged. Now a lot of Christians will use this Verse to defend there favourite Preacher if that Preacher says or does something wrong or Preaches error.

I have had Christians say it to me a few times now.

That Verse does not mean that we mustn’t judge Preachers who are Preach error. The origin is that Jesus said He was Preaching to the Jews and at the time some Synagogues were judging people by how rich they were and how poor they were. If they were rich they were Blessed by God and favoured by God if they were poor they were cursed by God. When Jesus said judge not lest you be judged He meant that you mustn’t do that. Which is sadly what a lot of Televangelist are doing.

In the bible Jesus speaks about false ministers who use his name and says when their time comes he will basically say to them 'you never worked for me take a hike'. And these guys don't seem to realize they fit the description. Than again they might not even believe in the bible and god and are just out to git rich.

You are right it does say that Jesus said that. He said depart from me I didn’t know you. Which I think is a very scary thing to hear.

It also says in the Bible in one of Paul’s letters I believe it is in Galatians that ‘If anyone preaches Another Jesus let him be accursed. These Preachers are Preaching Another Jesus that definitely does not fit the description of the Jesus that is in the Bible. Like I say it gives Christianity a bad name.

Also it says in another one Paul’s letters Do not be deceived for God is not mocked. These Preachers are making a mockery as well.

Sounds like a good idea. Save him fleecing off the sick, the poor and the old and the ones who have been taken in by his crazy teaching

I honestly don't know why televangelists are still making millions.

We are living in the information age. Anyone can easily read the Bible on their smartphone ... in any language.

Despite this, there are plenty of people who still rely on televangelists to read the Bible and interpret it for them. Why don't these people just read the Bible themselves? Wasn't that the whole point of the Protestant Reformation?

I'm an atheist who has read the Bible. There are some Christians who consider the Bible to be the word of God, but have never read it. What a bizarre world we live in.

Now I am definitely not an Athiest I am a Believer in God but you said here is absolutely right.

With Televangelist’s there are some terrible ones that do twist and interpret Scripture to suit themselves and deceive the followers. But there are a few (but rare) Televangelists who actually do teach from the Bible and who knows the Bible.

I find that a lot of the Prosperity Preaching to be very patronising enough to guilt trip someone into giving money they are no difference to beggars. I think a lot of what they Preach is enough to give Christianity a bad name and also enough to put people off!

People follow these people because they are Biblically Illiterate and make excuses that they are too busy to read there Bibles but my way of thinking if something is that important to you then make the time for it.

Back in the Eighties Oral Roberts announced that if his "ministries didn't raise 8 million dollars by [a certain date] that God will call me home".

Many accused Roberts of extortion, and of using God as accomplice, but it worked. They raised over nine million dollars by the date in question. So Oral didn't get "called home"

So this guy should threaten to "hold my breath til I turn blue" until he gets his airplane.

Terrible

My Dad was a Minister and back in the 1980’s he got a letter from Morris Cerullo and in the letter he wrote that he was going to Israel and is going to the River Jordan to meet with Jesus personally. He said (for a few) that any need or problem you have he will personally tell Jesus personally about it.

Gawd!

Did you know that...

I have Jesus on speed dial? And that I trade text messages with him?

For a few grand I can text him about your sister dying of cancer.

Fools and their money are soon parted. Televangelism is nothing more than voluntary thievery and exists only because there are so many weak minded fools out there.
