I'm not in a bad mood, so I don't see a need to lighten up, I just seriously don't understand what about the issue is supposed to be funny unless one takes wild leaps like suggesting it means we are going to put troops on space.

To me it's like, back before we had an airforce, people comming out to act as if a suggestion for an airforce is funny and that it must mean we are going to put troops in the air doing push-ups.

As for the motive of a space force, you can look that up yourself if you disagree and think it means we are going to put troops in space to 'stand-by'. Clearly it has to do with space defense, as in technology and satellites.

I don't think Tyson even likes Trump, so the idea that he would endorse Trump's space force idea and write a book just to make money seems a little far fetched. I doubt Tyson is hurting for money, he is a pretty popular figure.

Very punny.

No, the amusing part is that the SDI, founded by Ronald Reagan (a Republican), morphed into the BDMI under Bill Clinton (a Democrat). So if POTUS thinks he's come up with the best original idea ever, he's wrong (again). I think he's just trying to "undo" another DNC-backed program and make it look like he's pro-military -- especially after stealing money from the DOD for his precious border wall.

Why is this supposed to be funny? I'very heard quite a few people saying we need a specialized space force. I swear, some people??

Those people are idiots. War in space could very easily mean too much orbital debris to continue any space exploration at all.

Space is not something we can nationalize. Private industry is vastly more capable in space than any one government today.

I would rather see a Toyota on the moon than orbital bombing platforms.

Based on the wikipedia article it sounds like he didn't end up being charged. As after the investigation was complete National Geographic has taken his show on there off hold and says it will resume. So I do not think the accusations became charges, in which case he probably is still a popular figure.

Yeah it's all a big conspiracy between trump and tyson. Both of whom work for putin who is the real mastermind behind the whole thing.

Yeah, he got accused for inviting a woman up for wine and cheese, sat on the opposite side of the table and talked about work related things, then she came out with her #me too story. Sounds pretty ridiculous to me, even if he was asking her out. He didn't get fired or sued, so I don't see how that would effect his income. Now it's sexual assault to ask women out?? Good luck for the human species, I guess the correct way to meet woman is to be telepathic so they don't get offended and have to say the word, "no"

I didn't suggest Trump was the first one to think of a space force, it's possible Tyson wasn't the first either.

He was accused of drugging and raping a girl, inappropriate touching and inappropriate sexual advance...but like I mentioned in my earlier post seems the investigation did not find him guilty. Nothing about just inviting a women home though..the accusations were certainly worse.

Also if there are any women who consider being asked out to be sexual assault, I guarantee the court isn't going to take that seriously...especially when there is real sexual assault going on in this country, not just this country the world.

Funny, huh?

The purpose of SDI was to create the illusion of invulnerability, causing the Soviets to increase military spending further crippling their economy. And he never referred to it as Star Wars, that was a condescending term coined by the media. The link actually states as much.

And Trump's "Space Force" wasn't?

I'll believe it when I see our forces engage enemy forces in orbital combat.

The US would probably prefer something less German-derived.
