Also, the NZ guy outright stated in his manifesto that he turned radical after his visit to France, not by being on the internet or by reading Trump-tweets.

Trump may not have pulled the trigger but he needs to be held accountable for his (at best) ambivalence to make any critical comments about right wingers who (BTW) all seem to have been buoyed by his up front racial attacks on Mexicans, muslims and BLM

There was a terror attack in Sri Lanka today. Officials say 450 injured as explosions hit four hotels and three churches in and around Colombo as well as at Batticaloa in east of country. Most of the dead were locals but 36 foreigners are believed to have been killed. Five British citizens have been confirmed to have lost their lives (including two who also hold US citizenship), as well as three people from India, one from Portugal and two from Turkey. The Dutch foreign minister said one of the country’s citizens was also killed. Britons were among the injured, the British high commissioner to Sri Lanka said.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks but several arrests have been made and Sri Lanka’s defence minister, Ruwan Wijewardene, said the culprits were religious extremists. He said seven people had been apprehended, while a police spokesman said three had been arrested with others questioned. The arrests were made as police raided a housing complex in in the Dematagoda neighbourhood of Colombo, three hours after the initial six blasts. Another blast occurred during the operation killing three police officers.

A few weeks ago, I watched a movie titled "Hotel Mumbai" which was about a terror attack. It was about a terror attack that struck the heart of Mumbai, India, as members of Lashkar-e-Taiba storm the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in a series of coordinated attacks throughout the city. Amid the gunfire and mayhem, a brave chef and kitchen worker decide to risk their own lives to try and protect the frightened guests. As the militants continue their assault on the hotel, a desperate couple must do whatever they can to protect their newborn baby.

Lashkar-e-Taiba is one of the largest and most active Islamist militant organisations in South Asia, operating mainly from Pakistan. It was founded in 1987 by Hafiz Saeed, Abdullah Azzam and Zafar Iqbal in Afghanistan, with funding from Osama bin Laden.

Ten Pakistani men associated with the terror group Lashkar-e-Tayyiba stormed buildings in Mumbai, killing 164 people. They traveled from Karachi, Pakistan, to Mumbai via boat. Along the way, they hijacked a fishing trawler and killed four crew members, throwing their bodies overboard. They also slit the captain's throat.
The terrorists docked at the Mumbai waterfront near the Gateway of India monument. They hijacked cars, including a police van, and split into at least three groups to carry out the attacks, according to police. The attackers used automatic weapons and grenades. The attack was well coordinated with the mastermind controlling the terrorist by cell phone live during the attacks.

I thought this movie was very reminiscent of the current attack in Sri Linka.

Weeks before coordinated bombings ripped through churches and luxury hotels -- killing nearly 300 people on Easter Sunday -- authorities in Sri Lanka received warnings a domestic radical Muslim group would attack the nation on the Christian holy day.

Despite multiple warnings from international intelligence agencies, however, Sri Lanka’s security officials reportedly failed to heed the alerts and apparently took no action to protect against a potential attack. Authorities were first alerted to the threat April 4.

More than two weeks later, near-simultaneous blasts detonated at three churches and three luxury hotels in and around Colombo, the capital city. Two more explosions occurred hours later outside of Colombo – one at a guesthouse and the other near an overpass.

At least 290 people – including 39 foreigners – were killed and more than 500 people were injured. The government on Monday said the attacks were likely perpetrated by local militant group National Thowfeek Jamaath, a little-known radical Islamist organization.

A forensic analysis of body parts found at six sites determined seven suicide bombers conducted the coordinated assault. Most attacks were carried out by single bombers, but two men targeted the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.

Officials said all the bombers were Sri Lankan citizens, but authorities said foreign links to the plot were suspected. At least 24 suspects were in custody for questioning.

ISIS claimed responsibility Tuesday morning for the coordinated Sri Lanka Easter bombings as the death toll in the massacre has risen to 321.

Sri Lankan officials also have blamed the domestic militant group National Thowfeek Jamaath for the bombings and authorities revealed the little-known outfit likely received assistance in carrying out the horrific plot.

Faith leaders in Sri Lanka told the Associated Press on Tuesday that National Thowfeek Jamaath's purported leader, known as Mohammed Zahran or Zahran Hashmi, started posting videos online three years ago calling for non-Muslims to be "eliminated.” They added that their repeated warnings about National Thowfeek Jamaath drew no visible reaction from officials responsible for public security.

"It was basically a hate campaign against all non-Muslims," said Hilmy Ahamed, the vice president of the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka. "Basically, he was saying non-Muslims have to be eliminated."

So far, 40 people have been arrested on suspicion of links to the bombings, including the driver of a van allegedly used by the suicide attackers and the owner of a house where some of them lived, the Associated Press reported. But their identities and affiliations have not yet been revealed.

Authorities also said they knew where National Thowfeek Jamaath trained and had safe houses, but did not identify any of the seven suicide bombers, whose bodies were recovered. All seven bombers were Sri Lankans.

Fox is not a great source of information but the link to the leader of the National Thowheeth Jama’ath being radicalised as far back as three years ago calling fro the death of non-muslims suggest planning for this attack was a long time in the making

Sri Lanka is a soft target due largely to the level of corruption in their own government.

Although I doubt most Americans even know where Sri Lanka is geographically located I did identify that an opposition party in Sri Lanka would be open to accept support from overseas terrorist organisation to overthrow a ruling government in Sri Lanka

IDK why in this thread people are fighting over if ISIS extremism or right wing extremism is worse.

As far as statistics yes ISIS has committed worse attacks and more attacks than right wing extremists here in the U.S. That said some people seem to be using that to claim since right wing extremists haven't committed as much violence as ISIS thus far...there isn't a problem with right wing extremists and white supremacists.


Extremism is extremism...I mean what are we arguing here that there are good extremists and bad extremists? right wing extremists=good because they have not killed as many people, Islam extremists=bad because they've killed more people?

Point should be all extremism is bad, not trying to figure out if its fair to see right wing extremists as just as bad as Islam extremists. But that is just my opinion.

It's like arguing over whether Arsenic or Cyanide is more deadly -- both will kill you, and neither death is at all pleasant.

It seems like the idea is that Trump = white wing extremists = ISIS.

Trump and his supporters = America's version of ISIS - MAGA's, Republicans, Conservatives are just as dangerous as ISIS.

As long as Trump is president, our ISIS-like domestic terror crisis will continue.

It seems like that's what's being implied. How many actually believe it is another matter, but it certainly seems to be cycling through cyberspace. It seems whenever Islamic terrorists are mentioned, the retort is that our own white supremacist terrorists are just as bad, dangerous, worse and they're all pro-Trump MAGA Republican Conservative Christians.

President Barack Obama in 2014 likened ISIS to a junior varsity basketball team in an attempt to downplay the terrorist group's level of threat to international security. "What I will say is unlike junior varsity sports teams, terror organizations are extremely well-funded by countries such as Iran," Cohen said, "continue to not only pay terrorists to carry out acts of terrorism, but fund their families in case they're lost in the acts of terrorism because they're looked at as heroes."

As the death toll from the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka rose to 321 on Tuesday, the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS, claimed responsibility and released images that purported to show the attackers, while the country’s prime minister warned that several suspects armed with explosives are still at large.

Cohen said that ISIS militants "are masters in guerrilla warfare, people shouldn't take this lightly." "They use...the dark web to build, plot, plan, and execute a wave of what we call nomad or solo terror attacks," Cohen said.

The 9 suspects were all postgraduates in law, aeropsace engineering etc...they were highly educated and came from wealthy middle class Sri Lankan Families

Why is this relevant? Because the 9-11 attackers were also highly qualified engineers and architects with promise and wealthy family backgrounds

Bin Laden was a billionaire without a worry in the world

The Boston Bombers were culturally assimilated middle class and were even in relationships with American girls. Come to think of it the Libyan Lockerbie bomber was married to a Scottish girl.

Brendan Tarrant was an average guy before he killed 50 people

So what does this tell us? most of the time the terrorists aren't always born radicals - ordinary educated people can become radicalised into killers even when they have everything going for them.

The romantic notion of a heroic freedom fighter lashing out at the system that impoverished him or her is often a myth.
