Republicans love to present themselves as the real Americans, and Democrats as the fake Americans. But what happened in North Carolina shows the Republicans are hypocrites engaged in psychological projection. The Republicans need to realize, they're the ones who are Un-American. 9/11 was a major American tragedy. But Republicans only believe in using it to start wars and to bludgeon all opposition to them. They don't actually care about the victims; otherwise, they would have gone to that vigil.

This is why they elected someone like Trump, and this is why they played that dirty trick in North Carolina.

Both parties suck. The Democrats turned 2 wars into 7.

Washington Post stands by bogus report claiming North Carolina GOP held vote while Democrats were at 9/11 ceremony

You may want to sit down for this one: A major newsroom published a bogus story this week casting Republicans as villains and Democrats as noble victims. Big, I know.

The Washington Post tweeted Wednesday afternoon, “North Carolina Republicans overrode a budget veto while Democrats were at a 9/11 ceremony.”

Does Republican villainy know no limits?

The report opened originally with this line: "While North Carolina Democrats were remembering the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, their Republican colleagues took advantage of their absence and voted to override the governor’s budget veto Wednesday morning."

Democracy has truly died in this darkness.

Just kidding. Don’t get too attached to the Post’s supposedly damning scoop. It is a giant pile of trash.

For starters, a single House Democrat was preoccupied at a 9/11 memorial ceremony Wednesday at the time of the veto vote, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

It reports:

"Some headlines suggested that Democrats were at events commemorating the 9/11 attacks — the vote was taken at roughly the same time as the national moment of silence. But The News & Observer has confirmed only two Democrats attended 9/11 events.

"One was Cooper, who spoke at the North Carolina National Guard’s Sept. 11 commemoration in Raleigh.

"The other was Rep. Garland Pierce, a Scotland County Democrat, who says he attended an event in Raeford."

It is unclear where the rest of the Democratic caucus was at the time of the vote, but what we do know is that it was not at Sept. 11 memorial services as the Post report originally claimed. Moreover, the House veto vote was announced days in advance, according to audio provided to the Associated Press. Democrats, who claim falsely that Republicans broke the rules, had plenty of fair warning.

To recap: A planned vote was held this week in the North Carolina House, during which time a single House Democrat happened also to be at a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony. This is the entire basis for the Post’s faulty reporting.

They're probably chronically absent.

I see them being conniving and especially self righteous all the time.

When do liberals pull a stunt like this? And if conservatives are going to pull tricks like this, then the liberals have every right to come off as self righteous.

Probably never since conservatives wouldn't fall for it. Although I have seen them pull stunts. Like russiagate.

As there is a ton of evidence supporting Russiagate, along with indictments and convictions, it's hardly the same thing.

Regardless of where the Dems were, the fact remains that the Republicans took advantage of their absence, which was orchestrated by the GOPers.

Local Raleigh station MyFox8 says the vote was 55-9:

https://myfox8.com/2019/09/11/nc-house- ... rs-voting/

Looking at the roll call for the vote in question, it looks like the 55-9 vote was updated to 55-15. There were 6 excused absences recorded, but none of the excused absences was added to the ayes and noes:

https://www.ncleg.gov/Legislation/Votes ... 2019/H/807

So excused or not, the Republicans did not give the absentees any chance to vote aye or no.

Something isn't right though.

I don't believe these experienced politicians are that dumb.

The party doesn't have a "lookout" to see when chamber is in session, and to call people into work?

The party doesn't know that surprise votes can be called?

The party doesn't know that bills can be passed and veto overridden based on % of attendance?

Why does the party let all these people skip work?

The Democrats didn't have a "look out" because they probably just assumed the Republicans were as professional as them, and not given to childishly dirty tricks. In the end, this says more about the Republicans than about the Democrats.
As for not showing up to work: the Republicans assured the Dems they'd be starting work later due to the 9/11 remembrance.

It's my thesis that erstwhile non-committed voters and traditional blue collar democrats in economically depressed places like Detroit switched allegiances in 2016 because they were sold on Trump's claims he could bring jobs back. What perhaps is a concern is there was little critical thought in their brains over whether what what trump was claiming was even possible. This segment is also lukewarm to issues of environment and social justice (there is always a segment of traditional democrat voters who'se values/beliefs are not that strongly tied to core values of democrats).

For core Republican voters the writing was on the wall long before Trump reared his head in politics. There was a growing movement of republicans during the Obama years in the mid to late 2000s who formed the tea party movement which espoused all the dirty/deplorable racist tripe that Trump supporters enthusiastically chant in his rallies. The Tea party movement rallied white American republicans who were already uncomfortable with having a black leader (cue the pages of twitter feed of racist memes aimed at Obama and Michelle). Republicans had a full decade of anti-Obama indoctrination which spawned dubious conspiracy theories about Obama and Hillary Clinton.

A number of people correctly surmised that when Trump arose to contest the republican leadership he drew upon this seething anti-Obama movement within republican rank and file. He and his sons even to this day continue to repeat conspiracies that his republican opponents (Cruz, Rubio and Romney etc) drew the line (although probably privately despised Obama in equal volume).

There is an attempt to underplay the historic importance of the Tea Party movement in giving rise to the divisions in American society and the rise of Trump. This also explains why Trump was so attentive to listen to far right strategist Steve Bannon (notice how quiet the republican cheer squad are about him) who was watching the rise in acceptability of far right values within the republican movement. Bannon advised Trump on how to make use of this racist republican rabble to overcome his republican opponents. It was clearly a successful ploy.

Like Hilter's brown shirts, once Trump got in power he had his own "night of long knives" and dumped Bannon to make himself more appealing to his republican minions.

So what if they did?
As much unfounded vilification the left heaps on the republicans why not pull all the stops out and play the villain to the max? Why not make a grand show of screwing the left over for all they're worth at every opportunity? They'll still be vilified by the left but won't lose any ally's on the right......except for rinos who we don't need anyway.

For historical accuracy the "lukewarm" democrats and tea party republicans should be held accountable for the rise of Trump and Bannon.

It was not a hoax. The GOPers told the Dems there would be no vote in the morning due to the 9/11 observance. Just because most Democrats weren't present at the ceremony doesn't mean they hadn't been misled by the Republicans.

Funny how when I do a search for it all I see are substandard sources reporting it. I don't even see CNN making this claim. Maybe you can find it.

These are all "substandard"? Aside from the Washington Post article, which has already been posted here, let's take a look:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/north-caro ... 11-events/

http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/09/ ... -vote.html

https://www.cbs17.com/news/north-caroli ... ial-event/

https://www.newsweek.com/republicans-ch ... 11-1458847

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/pol ... 292281001/

These are all from the first 2 pages of my search when I searched Google for "north carolina 9/11 vigil".
