Maybe the law should also accommodate people with a foot fetish, I hear that's very common

People get aroused by all kind of stuff, all the time. I wouldn't feel comfortable making others responsible for it or censoring revealing clothing etc. I know self-control is considered an urban legend these days but it can be developed by anyone.

Exactly! If someone gets aroused by a topless woman, it's the fault of the one who got aroused, not of the woman. Not that it's a crime or wrong to get aroused, but if someone must be blamed, then that someone shouldn't be the person who's just minding their own business and happens to do it while topless. It's just like how some say that a woman is "asking for it" if she gets harassed when wearing a skirt that doesn't go past knees.

As she had no expectation of privacy, the neighbor should have simply gotten video footage and uploaded it to the internet.

Like I said, there's always the bathroom....

I feel like people should have better things to do with their time than calling the cops on some topless person playing frisbee----and making threats (death threats or no death threats) to her.

The neighbor should have just minded his own business. What the hell kind of society are we going to live in if people went around filming everything another person does?

Yeah, I would call it "responsibility" instead of blame. No need to blame anybody as far as I'm concerned. If I'm walking down the street and get aroused by... whatever, I'm perfectly capable of dealing with it, even my teenage son learned to deal with such occurrences (no bathroom visit necessary).

You don't have that kind of law in Finland, do you?

What kind of law exactly? Last summer someone called the police on a woman who was on the beach topless and she was forcefully removed after she refused to put a top on (she did make a top out of weeds after she was told to cover herself, but they didn't count that), so I'd say Finland's kind of messed up too, especially since it was a freaking beach. They should've driven out the topless men too, then.

This summer, many women held a protest on the very same beach about this, going there topless. It wasn't violent one or anything, just women spending time on the beach but topless. Some took part by simply bathing in the sun on their stomachs, but topless.

Thank you - give the relaxed attitude I've seen there in regards to nudity (sauna, gym etc) I wouldn't have guessed it.

I think it's about what people expect to happen. Sauna? Everyone knows there will be naked people, including of the opposite gender when it's mixed. However, when it comes to beaches, it is a norm here that women have to cover themselves and men don't, so someone acting outside of the norm can stir trouble. The law is actually a bit flexible here; for examble, a man walking on a beach topless is unlikely to get any comments, but in the street in the city he's likely to get at least some dirty looks. As far as I know, the law doesn't directly say what's okay and what's not. It simply states that people need to dress modestly without bothering others and take in to account when and where they are. I mean, wearing a revealing bikini on the beach? No problem, or at least nothing would be done about it even if someone did try to call the police. Wearing a revealing bikini while walking around a mall in the city? Nope, not modest enough and against the law.

Look, where I live, public nudity is legal (no, it doesn't mean people run around naked). And in my culture nudity is not considered a big deal, we are used to seeing strangers naked (for example in saunas or communal showers) since we are kids (and no, we do go around with erections all the time, you get used to it). I get, it's a cultural issue.

And nudity is not sexual by default, otherwise, people would have... interesting difficulties while visiting a museum.

I don't see what the fuss is about: the woman was topless in her own yard, in a place where it's legal to be topless in public. So yeah, I'm with kraftie, the neighbours should mind their own business and the police should be aware of the local laws.

As for the threats - whatever they are - people are dicks, especially on the internet

Well there's a front yard and then there's the sidewalk running along side it and then the street running alongside that. As in right out in the open.

We have nude places here too. I was at a nude beach once. But you say people where you live aren't walking around nude, why not?

Interesting fact for you, kraftie (I noticed you enjoy that kind of thing): the Germans were the first to made public nudity legal (in designated places) as early as the XIXth century!

edited for clarity

There are rules about it, of course: in theory, you could walk down the street naked, but if the behaviour is considered provocative or harassing, it's illegal. It's not about exhibitionism, so people do it mostly in designated places: beaches, lakes, but also public parks, yards and balconies. It's not illegal even if the whole city/town can see you.

Back home I've seen people going through the hotel lobby stark naked on their way to the sauna to the collective horror of AngloAmerican tourists.

Only a nut would get his/herself wound up over somebody playing frisbee topless. I would tell the person to get a friggin' life.

Who said anyone threatened harm? Much less death?

Did you read the article?
Quote:
Ms Krokos told CBS 4 that people had threatened her over the past couple of months, with some calling her “liberal scum”.
What do you think they threatened her with? For that matter, why did people threaten her?  It may have something to do with the 50,000 USD the court awarded her for her troubles.

What is even more striking is that many conservatives who would object to a woman being topless in her own yard would also pay a 20-dollar overhead charge and a 2-drink minimum to watch women shake their naked breasts on stage inside a "Gentlemen's Club".

Exposed female breasts are an erotic body part the same as a penis and a vagina. That's why those three things are covered up at most beaches. I mean I guess. I can't think of another reason.

What about 13-16 year old girls being out in front of their house playing topless? Is there anything wrong with that?
