A man who saved a woman during the attack, is a convicted murderer, and the family of his victim is mad that he was released, said "people don't change", and are angry that he's being treated as a hero now:

And the woman he murdered may have been autistic. The victim was 21-year-old Amanda Champion, who had learning difficulties. She had the mental age of a 15-year-old, according to her parents.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it had been a "mistake" to grant an early release to the suspect. Khan, who lived in the Staffordshire area, was convicted in 2012 for "terrorism offenses". Authorities said Khan had been released in December 2018 "on license," meaning he had to meet certain conditions or face being sent back to prison, according to Metropolitan Police Counterterrorism Chief Neil Basu. Johnson said he had "long argued" against allowing "serious and violent criminals to come out of prison early.”

Several British media outlets reported that he was wearing an electronic ankle bracelet at the time of the attack. A lot of good the ankle monitor did.

Quite an awful miscalculation of the level danger he posed. Litigation from the victim's families is inevitable.

Boris Johnson's response is typical of politicians knee jerk reaction when a prisoner is on parole or day release and kills people...these issues are never on their radar

An ironic side issue to the real story but given he was also on day release it's strange he may have saved lives whereas Khan took lives.

James Ford was clearly under some powerful desire to kill when he murdered Amanda Champion but to be fair it had nothing to do with her autism rather than opportunity and unfortunate circumstance for Amanda.

Dutch police arrest suspect in stabbing of 3 teens

Quote:
Dutch police arrested a 35-year-old homeless man Saturday on suspicion of stabbing three teens on a street in The Hague that was crowded with Black Friday shoppers.

The man, whose identity wasn’t released, was detained in The Hague early Saturday evening and taken to a police station for questioning, police spokeswoman Marije Kuiper said.

The victims, two 15-year-old girls and a 13-year-old boy, were treated in a hospital and released late Friday. Police said in a statement that they didn’t know one another.

Police identify London Bridge stabbing victims

Quote:
Police have identified the two people who were fatally stabbed in a terror attack at the London Bridge on Friday afternoon.

In a statement by the Metropolitan Police Service on Sunday, officials identified the two victims as Jack Merritt, 25, of Cottenham, Cambridgeshire and Saskia Jones, 23, of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire.

Merritt and Jones were both graduates of the University of Cambridge and were involved in the Learning Together program, where Merritt was a coordinator and Jones was a volunteer.

In a statement from his family, Merritt was described as a talented person who "died doing what he loved, surrounded by people he loved and who loved him."

The family also said Merritt would not want his death to be used by the government as an excuse to extend prison detentions.

"We know Jack would not want this terrible, isolated incident to be used as a pretext by the government for introducing even more draconian sentences on prisoners, or for detaining people in prison for longer than necessary," the family's statement read.

Merritt's family said he had planned to build a future with his girlfriend, Leanne, and had worked toward a career helping people in the criminal justice system.

Jones' family described her as a "funny, kind, positive influence at the centre of many people's lives."

"She had a wonderful sense of mischievous fun and was generous to the point of always wanting to see the best in all people," the family's statement reads.

The Hague stabbing: Dutch police say 'no terrorist motive'
Quote:
Authorities in the Dutch city of The Hague have said that a stabbing attack at a busy department store on Friday did not appear to be linked to terrorism.

"The precise circumstances of the stabbing incident are still unclear. No indications have yet been found to indicate that there was a terrorist motive," the police said in a statement on Sunday.

Just a reminder that we do not have a rule against conspiracy theories. They are forbidden only on a case-by-case basis if they break one of our other rules, such as the prohibition on racism.

That's lucky for you then.

The U.K. just needs stronger knife-control laws, that's all.

How would you control knives as much as you can control other weapons? Despite the total ban on weapons, you can't even have one hundred percent control of knives in prison, how would you fully control them in a free society where knives even have many lawful uses as tools unlike guns or explosives?

Because when knives are outlawed, only outlaws will have knives.

I still think that it would be a tough sell to any governing body to make a full ban on knives. How do you think an elected official would respond when their server at the steakhouse they frequent gives the following apology: "please excuse the fungal matter in your roast beef, the cook didn't have a knife so he had to cut it with his fingernails."

Now you're arguing people's rights against public safety concerns.  Which should have priority?

I am saying I don't think a ban on all knives would be practical. Even with gun control, people are allowed to atleast have access to something like a civil war era musket for hunting. Knives have a much broader application. Many places have laws limiting the size of the knife you can carry with you, but I don't think the risks outweigh the benefit to make it so a cook in a restaurant must use there teeth and fingernails because knives are prohibited. For that matter, do we ban other blades used commonly in lawn care? Do we let all vegetation grow horribly out control since caring for a lawn means tools like lawnmowers and sometimes chainsaws?
