He was hired to kill enemy combatants in battle. Not murder surrendered children and then use the corpse for a selfie. Such a person is actually a menace to decent society. Of course trump enjoys the company of such "fine" people.

Are you upset about this? Cause you were cracking jokes over it earlier.

It is absolutely depraved to take a selfie with a corpse. Who but an absolute nut would do this?

It's common for hunters and he's a hunter (sniper).

Who cares if he posed with the corpse of some terrorist scumbag, who cares if he outright killed some terrorist scumbag.War crimes are when you harm or kill innocent civilians or bystanders during war,not active combatants and known terrorists.

Well you know it goes from to the person being a terrorist scumbag, to being an innocent child.

The idea of course is vilify the the soldier as much as possible and then make out that he is Trump's best friend.

I don't know what all the circumstances were, but as is usually the case, there is probably a rest of the story aspect to it.

Was the soldier posting with the corpse like the picture above? Or was the corpse just in the same room so to speak. I have seen pictures of soldiers and cops next to a dead body before.

An innocent child killed would be a war crime, were talking about enemy combatants.

If you keep saying it, does it become true?

A jury determined he was not guilty of murder.

Still, I have to wonder if this wasn't just a case where the prosecution didn't have proof beyond a reasonable doubt, but he probably did it. AP reported yesterday that there are leaked videos of Gallagher's fellow Navy SEALs calling him evil:

Quote:
They described how their chief seemed to love killing, how he targeted women and children and boasted that “burqas were flying.”

The footage provides revealing insights of the men who worked with Gallagher and turned him in. They have never spoken publicly about the case, which has divided the elite fighting force known for its secrecy.

“The guy is freaking evil,” Special Operator 1st Class Craig Miller says about Gallagher in one interview.

“The guy was toxic,” Special Operator 1st Class Joshua Virens, a sniper, says in another.

Special Operator 1st Class Corey Scott, a medic in the platoon, says, “You could tell he was perfectly OK with killing anybody that was moving.”

I remember talking with a friend who knew a guy who joined the military just so he could legally kill people. Gallagher might be that type of guy.

There are two mitigating circumstances that make this worse. Firstly the age of the victim means he is not an adult. Secondly the victim had already surrendered so was effectively nuetralised. From what I understand many Iraqi youth are coerced to join ISIS in places like Mosul or face execution. For all we know the boy wanted to surrender and never saw active combat.

I am fairly sure the American GIs who liberated Nazi death camps didn't go into nearby German towns and summarily execute Nazi youth in retribution (and they would have had more reason than Gallagher).

People who think Gallagher's acquittal is proof of innocence perhaps need to understand how testimony/evidence/proof work in a court of law. I am fairly certain his Navy seal team took an oath not to turn in their brothers so its unlikely their testimony could have been used to charge Gallagher with murder. Hence he walked.

Trump just wanted to put a cherry on top by reinstating his rank and pin to rub the point in. Nothing to do with justice.

Per this AP article, it was his team who turned him in:

Quote:
In the interviews, the platoon members told investigators that they tried repeatedly to report what they saw but no action was taken. In April 2018, they went outside the SEALs to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and Gallagher was arrested a few months later.

Gallagher has insisted that the charges against him were concocted by six disgruntled SEALs in his platoon who could not meet his high standards.

They turned him in but their testimony wasn't used to prosecute him
