Oh, no, it’s definitely loathsome to think your president would implode relationships with his closest trading partners (that are unfortunately interwoven integral parts of our economies) in what would result in not only damaged relations between our countries, but also a Net Loss in N95 masks for his own country’s doctors and nurses.

Who the f**k does that? Pisses everyone off for no net gain of their own? Guy’s a total idiot. Of course he’s loathsome.

Yes, we can.  You can keep your skanky beer, too![/color]

Fake news. California would be in the dark along with other states if we didn’t supply them with power.

And a whole lot of areas would run out of fresh water pretty quick if we turned off the taps. Unfortunately we have contractual obligations to sell water to the USA even in times when your president is a total f*****g dickbag waste of air trying to ruin trade relations and kill our doctors and nurses - all for what has been pointed out to him as a Net Loss of N95 masks to the USA if Canada and Latin America do the same in retaliation.

You don’t supply my state with water or power.
Yeah our President sucks. No argument there. He is not trying to kill your medical staff, he’s trying to save ours.
It’s called triage.

An American president should take care of Americans first, not Canadians, not Mexican, not Iranians ... Americans!

Canada is doing a better job of it. Our federal leadership has clear and unified messaging about it that people are mostly complying with - hence the lower infection and death rates, unlike the USA that currently leads the world with infection rates and eventually death toll.

From the link you give: "U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the Minnesota-based company to produce and sell as many medical-grade masks as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) says it needs. He invoked the Defense Production Act in order to speed up the distribution of masks."

From Wiki: "The Act contains three major sections. The first authorizes the president to require businesses to accept and prioritize contracts for materials deemed necessary for national defense, regardless of a loss incurred on business (it is unclear what would occur if business refuses or is unable to complete request on time). "

It's an Act typically used in wartime to require manufacturers to either manufacture an existing product for the national defense of the U.S. or to retool and manufacture a product they don't normally make for national defense.

He's invoking the Defense Production Act in relation to 3M (a U.S. company) manufacturing the masks for use within the U.S. This is an entirely different situation than Trump simply asking a company under otherwise normal circumstances to not sell their product to a certain country.

So he's taking a step here to better ensure the safety of the American citizens and reduce the spread of the virus, which is exactly what everyone wants and exactly what he should be doing.

Do you understand what “Net Loss,” means? :?

Then you don’t need our masks.

I know you understand what Net Loss means.

How is trump going to take care of American doctors and nurses with moves that could result in a Net Loss of N95 masks for the USA?

For things that are necessary and critical for the well being and safety of a country, if the country has the resources to do so, they absolutely should be manufacturing such products themselves. My great hope in addition to this virus affecting the least number of people as possible is that the takeaway from all of this, the wake up call, is that the U.S. detaches from trading with China as much as possible. If other countries want to continue to rely on Chinese goods after this, that's their prerogative. The U.S. however? Kick China to the curb and start that process now! We should never have been doing it in the first place.

Would you accept it as a fair America first deal if the USA keeps all of the N95 masks 3M produces in the USA and Canada and Latin America keep their production for themselves and refuse to sell them to the USA in return?

I’ll take that as a “no.”

Yes, I do understand triage. But I also understand America is not going to be able to perform said triage without N95 masks from Canada and Latin America and you don’t.

1) You see no point in maintaining allies and trading partners?

2) 3M pointed out that if Canada and Latin America retaliate with the same measures, and the USA is dependent on domestic N95 production only, the USA will actually suffer a net loss of N95 masks. (I have no idea if we make them in Canada or not. I Assume they’re made in Latin America more so than Canada, but both have been lumped together in the article.)

If U.S. manufacturers who are not currently manufacturing N95 masks like 3M does start producing N95 masks as a produce in demand then I think it's safe to assume that there would be an increase in supply. This virus isn't going to go way in a few months.

To be honest I am a little concerned over the supply chain of maple syrup and canadian bacon being disrupted.
