Perhaps more so in Australia.

The American situation probably is more complicated than I am aware of.
But, as I indicated, I am hardly surprised that Trump has been attacked.
No matter what he does, he will be criticised.

It is like Fishman in regard to anything American.
Eventually, one reaches the threshold of criticism fatigue and ignores it, or is amused by its inevitability. Meh.

People from all over the political spectrum dislike Trump. It’s simply the result of rational, evidence-based views. Criticism is not hatred.

I guess I could be wrong, but I don't really see green cards and citizenship being important in a global pandemic. If you are trying not to die from exposure to a virus, how is being out anywhere beneficial? Of course, if you aren't concerned, then so be it. But that lack of concern requires the participation of another. If the immigration offices don't have employees processing the applications, what good would it do to immigrate at this time? You need papers to apply for housing, jobs, assistance and the websites are not working properly. All I can envision at this point is the immigrant wandering empty streets....

What do green cards and citizenship have to do with going outside?

If your visa is about to run out then you have the choice between applying for a new visa, applying for permanent residency, applying for citizenship, or risking deportation. If the president issued a moratorium on deportations then perhaps there would be no need for people to apply for those things. But having an ICE raid on your house, being put in a prison camp, and then being put on a flight to another country are going to put you at greater risk than staying at home and applying to stay.

They have nothing to do with going outside if you already have a place to live.
I would also hope that anyone who is in the process of already immigrating, working, studying, etc... wouldn't have waited until the last minute to reapply. As with any official document, you should be able to print the confirmation and receipts to add to your existing (even if it's expired) documents, until the new one arrives.
Otherwise, if you've just begun the process of immigration, you're likely to have a long wait. If you're planning to steal across the border, well do whatever it is you do.

The baiting is also "fascination".

It makes the Australian ABC look like rank amateurs.
