They gave Serbia the July ultimatum which was so harsh no one could abide by it.Then the invasion began on July 28th a month after the St.Vitus day assassination.

If it werent for Attila we would be speaking in something akin to Welsh with those mouth breaking mile long words that dont contain a single vowel! At least sumpin good resulted from Attila! :lol:

There were many East Germanic groups such as those who became the Ostrogoths, Gepids, and others who had been conquered by the Huns, and so had been called upon by Attila with his invasion of the west. While other Germanic groups to the west either allied themselves to the Huns, or sided with the Romans, probably depending on if they could gain with a Hunnish alliance, or if they feared being trampled over by Attila's army.

Even so, for a time there was international sympathy for Austria-Hungary. Kaiser Wilhelm had cautioned the Hapsburg Emperor to move quickly, or that sympathy would soon switch to Serbia. No one ever accused the Austrian-Hungarian Emperor of being the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree for how he had procrastinated.

Yes of course, this coincided with the fall of the western Roman empire. These east german tribes had to back either the Romans or Attila or else flee.

The scarcity of resources makes perfect sense that so many coastal Germans would looked to the recently vacated Roman province of Britain as an opportunity for new lands.
