I’ll do the drinking for both of us.

I just spent $1500 at a few liquor stores in the last couple days.

How much per bottle if you spent that much?

I bought a couple 12 packs of beer (about $25 each + tax so about $30 each - which is maybe a hair above average for a 12 pack of beer, but these are craft mixer packs of specialty beers so a good value)

A bottle of the cheapest whiskey $22.xx/750mL. Another cheap whiskey around $28 + tax.

A 4 pack of tall cans of vanilla stout for $11+ tax.

And 19 bottles of what was rated the world’s best whiskey 2020. Prices were slightly different at different stores but approx $60 before tax for a 750ml (26er) which was $69.xx-$71.16 per bottle after tax. They are not all for me lol - some for friends/others in the BC Whiskey Wizards Facebook group. I did he shopping to buy them before they’re sold out, others sent me $.

Oh, ok, makes sense now that you were buying for others too. Back when I did drink, I only spent about 200 a month as a liberal estimate, and I was buying different top shelf bottles.

Alcohol is very expensive here. Pre-covid I probably spent $100/mo combined on alcohol & cannabis. During covid everyone’s been drinking more so probably more like $200 or so. The last couple years I’ve only drank one beer or so/day after work, but during covid there are a lot more days where I drink 2-3 or maybe pour a couple doubles. So, my alcohol consumption is up a lot % wise, but it’s still pretty rare that I’m over the drinking driving limit - and we have the lowest limit in the world at 0.05% BAC. And even then it’s usually late night and I have Zero plans of going anywhere.

I quit drinking about a decade or so ago because I started to see a pattern of alcohol triggering seizures, but when I did drink, I would usually have like a double shot on the weekends from a fifth of cognac. I have never been one to really try to get intoxicated, but just to enjoy the beverage and a cigar or cigarette. Although I noticed how when I did drink, I was actually less of an a**hole than when I am sober.

Quality > quantity.

Yeah, alcohol loosens some people up quite nicely.. but others are so allergic they beak out in handcuffs. :p

Here’s an example of one of these local gangsters who’s now evaded police and skipped across the US border where officials picked him up, didn’t know who he was, and let him go.. so now he’s in the USA, probably hiding out, but possibly there on business or with murderous intent.

Many, but not all, of the local gangsters involved in violence and shootings are Indo-Canadian. Their subculture seems to have a greater penchant for public violence than other ethnic groups. Or maybe there's just more and more of them involved in that life so it seems that way - but likely a combination. Even back when I tended bar, their underworld groups had a reputation for being quick tempered and quick to draw guns so they would sometimes be denied entry to bars and clubs and assume it was racism.. not quite, prejudice based on reputation of, you know, shooting people - there's a difference.

I heard that a lot of the back and forth shootings in my city have been between Indo-Canadian drug gangs and Somalians - I'm assuming people, or kids of people, who have come here as refugees and then carried on being criminals instead of taking full advantage of living a straight and narrow life.

But it's certainly not all ethnic minorities that are in the drug trade or are involved in gang violence. Plenty of caucasians, asians (major Chinese crime groups), south asians, mexican cartels now I'm sure, hondurans as street level dealers in some of the rough areas and just about everyone else you could think of I guess - maybe some European mafias that are more prominent in Montreal or Toronto, too. Probably everyone else, too, lol I once served beers to a South African biker gang that was in town on "business." And I heard the guy who Used To rule the entire drug trade moving in and out Vancouver ports was a Persian guy - he was above everyone and kept the peace between rivals by coordinating shipments and territories but he got arrested when his plane landed on US soil about a decade ago so things have been in flux since and everyone's been jockeying for position trying to fill the power void w/ no director CEO type at the very top to control anything.

The entire world lives here, almost every culture/ethnic group you can think of, and so our criminal underworld is also very diverse. Some of them are very low level street dealer thugs, others are moving Billions worth of product & laundered money.

These guys shooting each other? Somewhere in between - not quite bottom rung street dealers, but not exactly big business types in shirts and ties either. They seem to idolize the "gangster rap," lifestyle and choose to live out that tough guy gangster rapper drug dealer fantasy life.. for some reason.
