Equity does not mean equal results, at least not in a policy standpoint. Equity is just the process of, for want of a better term, how to share the pie. But there is not one solution. Equity could be first come first serve, equal slices, slices depending on seniority, rank, or affliation, slices depending on need, etc. Equity is simply a name for the process of distribution based on the need for outcomes.

Was this an another incident of wokeness gone wild? I was directed to this story on that premise. I need more evidence then an allegation against “one of the officials”. Unless I see more evidence I am tossing this one up to the usual bureaucratic myopia and inflexibility.

His employer's or the justice system's? :?

Either/or, I'm going with racism on this one. Dude is from Pakistan working in Texas and got excessively scrutinized for knowing others with Indian-sounding names. He followed protocol by doing as instructed - not wasting a single dose. He also "did not harm," which he swore to do. My guess is if he was Dr. Smith from Seattle and the people he was able to contact on short notice so as not to waste the vaccine were named Joe, Richard, John, James, Henry and so on vs Ahmed & Harjit he would have been praised for his quick thinking/action and MD decision not to waste a single dose of the vaccine.

Can I prove it? No. Do I believe it? Yes.

For clarification the “wokeness gone wild” argument is about discrimination but not discrimination based on white supremacy. The Washington Examiner argues this case.
The Left's 'equity' obsession, shared by Biden, helped get this doctor fired
Quote:
The catch, as has been seen in other states such as New York under Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is that local laws mandate that shots can only go to specific groups of people. During the first phase of vaccine distribution, that has typically included nursing home patients, healthcare workers, first responders, and the elderly. To administer shots outside of those groups would be in violation of the law. Compounding the matter is the Democrats' obsession with ensuring vaccines are distributed "equitably," meaning that extensive care should be given in getting the vaccine to "underserved communities" and everyone else can pound sand.

This needs to be explained a bit. “Equity” meaning equal results is replacing “equality” meaning equal opportunity. It is a key element of ‘Critical Race Theory’ and ‘Anti Racism’ which has gained agency in Human Resources Departments in recent years and especially since the murder of George Floyd. New York is reacting to black people getting less heath care and dying of COVID at much higher rates and the higher mistrust of vaccines due to the Tuskegee experiments and a long history of racist maltreatment by the medical profession, by prioritizing getting vaccines to “underserved communities”.

It was the HR representative using the “equity” that the conservative media picked up on. But is not a Pakistani a person of color?. Yes. But there is this wing of intersectionality described as “hierarchy of oppression” where people from Southeast Asia are considered less oppressed or more privileged then blacks. So while it is plausible wokeness gone wild is the reasoning behind this it is a major stretch. For one thing there is no law or policy in Texas or Houston that I am aware of that prioritizes giving vaccines to blacks.

I see.

You know what solves all of these problems while costing less money?

Single payer socialized medicine. ..like every other developed nation on Earth.

As it is now, job status & level dictate healthcare coverage availability.. and educated white people get those jobs in your country, while others are locked out via various gatekeepers. Educated whites with great jobs and healthcare are a-okay with the status quo while others are rightfully f*****g pissed. Fix the big picture systemic problem of rationing healthcare via job title, and job titles & educations via race etc and all of these other things begin to sort themselves out.

Everyone knows what the problem and solution are. Special interest groups roadblock it from happening. Privileged whites, insurance industry & private healthcare lobbyists etc. Rinse and repeat until you have to have laws that tell you you have to Also vaccinate black people, or prioritize it because you allowed their health to slip via low pay, no healthcare etc to the point that they're now a high risk group during a pandemic. Absurd. All of it.

Use it or loose it. So he used it. Sounds fine to me. A team of medical workers were stranded on a western US highway in a blizzard. So they proceeded to vaccinate everyone else (who consented) who was stranded in vehicles on the same highway- for the same reason- the vaccine was about to expire. Each person had to do a lot of paper work for them, but still. Why not?

I am disgusted. He did as he was asked and they didn't like it, so they booted him. Thank goodness the court saw sense!

"Equity" is actually an accounting term that has nothing directly to do with the similar sounding word "equality".

Your "equity" is that portion of what you own...that you really own... that doesnt really belong to creditors.

But in politics its used to mean the stake all groups have in society. Giving minorities more "equity" goes along with giving them more "equality". So the similar sounding words end up being used together.

Equity vs. Equality: What’s the Difference? -Milken Institute of Public Health - The George Washington University
Quote:
While the terms equity and equality may sound similar, the implementation of one versus the other can lead to dramatically different outcomes for marginalized people.

Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), equity is defined External link as "the absence of avoidable or remediable differences among groups of people, whether those groups are defined socially, economically, demographically or geographically." Therefore, as the WHO notes, health inequities involve more than lack of equal access to needed resources to maintain or improve health outcomes. They also refer to difficulty when it comes to "inequalities that infringe on fairness and human rights norms."

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) refers to health equity External link as "when everyone has the opportunity to be as healthy as possible." As such, equity is a process and equality is an outcome of that process. Or, as the Race Matters Institute External link describes, "The route to achieving equity will not be accomplished through treating everyone equally. It will be achieved by treating everyone equitably, or justly according to their circumstances."

So we are both right. "Equity" is a process but the goal is "equal outcome" , unequal opportunities may be needed to get there. With equality the goal is equal opportunity not equal results.

That all said we all seem to agree the doctor was unfairly fired and prosecuted which is no small thing in today's political climate.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here & I'm gonna point out the supposed reason why people had a problem with what the doc did. Imagine if you were waiting in line for something like a restaurant/club/concert/movie theater & were told you'd have to wait quite a while to be allowed in & then 9 people cut in line & walked straight on in just because they knew the person at the door who was letting them in. I'd bet that lots of people waiting in that line would be frustrated & annoyed by that. LOTS of people are very worried & freaked out by this virus & lots of them are understandably very upset that they have not been able to get vaccinated yet. There have been guidelines in place for a general order based on need for who can get vaccinated 1st. For example a healthcare worker/provider should get priority over somebody in their 20s who is in good health, lives by himself, & is working from home. People are upset that the order was briefly disrupted & a few people got bumped up to a higher priority cuz they knew the doc. LOTS of things about this pandemic have been very mishandled from the begging & people are understandably very angry & wanting something/someone to blame & wanting accountability. However those people are NOT considering & factoring in the details of the situation the doc was in. These viles are in very short supply due to their very high demand & are only good for 6 hours 1ce the 1st vaccine in it is used. There were no people around in the highest priority group & there was not much time to find some. The doc could of very easily found people in the lowest priority group to give the vaccines to but he tried to find people in higher priority groups that were not currently high enough to be admitted. The alternative was to take those 9 vaccines & figuratively flush them down the toilet. The doc bumping those 9 people up & inoculating them then means that those 9 people won't be getting their vaccines down the road when their priority group is admitted which means those 9 vaccines can go to others when that group is admitted. That is of corse a very good thing. I suspect that some people are pointing their finger trying to make the doc a scapegoat cuz they are trying to avoid having fingers pointed at them. Why was a new vile opened when only one person was there to use it :?: That situation should not have happened.

Why not? The patient arrived during the scheduled time and the doctor has sworn to do no harm - turning him away could have done harm to him that the vaccine could prevent. IMO he made all the right decisions from not turning that one guy away to making sure the remaining vaccine doses did not go to waste. Dude deserves a medal for going above and beyond, not termination.

I completly agree that the doc went above & beyond & I find NO fault with him, I was just analyzing both sides of the issue. In regards to a new vile being opened for just one person, in lots of areas the vaccine is by appointment only for the general public & those appointments should be setup in multiples of ten to prevent a situation like this where some vaccines could potentially get wasted. I do not think the doc was the one in charge of all that.
