The ploy of labelling social justice movements as socialists/communists has it's roots in women's movements and civil rights movements in the 1930s. Legitimate civil rights movements like the NCCAP and MLK's civil rights movement were labelled communist by the American media. It's an old trick.

What's amusing is those trying to cancel BLM cynically quote MLK's "I have a dream speech" in order to beat them like a stick.


I won't say there isn't hypocrisy on the left, but the right might as well patent it. Along with that hypocrisy comes cruelty, which manifests itself as the right preaching to those shorted by capitalism: if you only worked harder.

The USA did not want to get involved until they became involved because their ships were destroyed.
Ireland never got involved. The Germans refuelled their submarines in Ireland as Ireland were one of the few countries to benefit from WW2 by not being involved and selling fuel! Everyone else suffered on all sides of the war either directly or indirectly.

While the USA could not say they were the victors, as to be brutally honest, they came in quite late, but the allies were greatful they did as Germany had technology that had they been able to use it, was so advanced that no other country in the world at that time would have been able to touch them. It is only by repeated raids on Germany with the British at night and Germany by day that Germany would have no one left alive had they not given up when they did.

Despite having been a history major back in college, I had not known Ireland refueled German submarines during WWII.

Claiming communism is something we need to be worried about in 2021 is like saying cannibalism might make a comeback, Even communist China has embraced capitalism. As we all know, America is moving more and more to the political left and part of the reason, based on my sources, is because the young haven't been educated about the atrocities of the communist past.

Nazi Germany forbade objective research if it was produced by jews and attempted to distort truth on a momental scale including the burning of libraries of intellectual material.

Nobody in modern academia is trying to "hide" anything. If you have objective proof you can get it published anywhere anytime.

Not sure if you are familiar with the history wars back in the 1980s/90s? There was a brawl between two eminent Melbourne historians Manning Clark and Geoffrey Blainey. Blainey was an arch-conservative who tried to sugar coat the white Australia policy and handling of aborigines. Manning Clark wanted Australian history told warts and all. The media face of the battle was represented by Bruce Ruxton of the RSL, a weasel radio shock jock by the name of Ron Casey and subsequently Pauline Hanson (who hijacked the debate for her own cause). Clark was defended by the Australian newspaper and ABC radio's most educated and eloquent voice in Phillip Adams.

John Howard got involved in the history wars in the late 1980s and tried to interfere with the history curriculum in schools and how Australian history was taught in Australian universities. Not surprisingly Howard got his ideas on Asians and aborigines from Blainey who was both anti-Asian and pro removing aboriginal children from remote settlements. Long before the rise of Pauline Hanson. Howard famously said he did not want a "black-armband" view of Australian history which translated to "let's sweep all the bad stuff under the carpet".

So it was conservatives (not progressives) in Australia who have been trying to eradicate and re-write history.

I've continually heard that. But what does the right want taught? They've said they don't want the founders smeared with enslavement of African Americans, or with genocide of Native Americans, more concerned with indoctrinating children with how great America is than with actual history. There is still a movement that wants to rewrite history of the American Civil War, in which the south secedes due to heavy taxation from the north, with zero mention of slavery being a cause.

The song resonated with me. I recall in school how students cringed whenever they had to learn about non-Australian cultures. In class quizzes they would pretend not to know the answer to a cultural question to not be considered weird by their friends. I even see it Australian quiz shows where a contestant will just say they were taking a "wild guess" when the get the answer correct (but I can tell they knew the answer).

So short memory is pretending not to know history and by extension geography. To make matters worse our young folk know the names of rock bands and instragram stars but can't name anybody in public office.

When I was in skool, no teacher tried to tell us what politics we needed to embrace. 8)

True, but they only got involved AFTER the Germans invaded them. They didn't give a damn when France was occupied or when the Luftwaffe was dropping bombs on London nightly.

After the USSR got involved, the US extended Lend-Lease to them. Not just military weapons, but food, clothing, and other provisions. The Soviets desperately needed it.
