QAnon peddles latest conspiracy theory beyond parody linking Hillary Clinton to Suez ship

Quote:
The latest wild conspiracy theory from followers of QAnon claims that the cargo ship stuck in the Suez Canal is being used by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for child sex trafficking.

Some also claim that Ever Given ran aground in Egypt as part of a rescue mission and that the children will be freed live on camera, proving their theory correct.

Newsweek reports that conspiracy theorists arrived at this bizarre conclusion via the name of the vessel’s Taiwan-based operator — Evergreen Marine Corporation — pointing out that Ms Clinton’s Secret Service codename as first lady during her husband’s presidency was “Evergreen”.

Further to that, the call sign for the ship is H3RC, similar to Ms Clinton’s initials when campaigning in 2016 when she includes her original last name — Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The theory also somehow manages to include the plot of the movie The Sum of All Fears (relating to the ship's destination Rotterdam being twinned with Baltimore), the fact that Monday was World Water Day, and (predictably) China.

Excuse me while I feint surprise.

I was just gonna make a joke post, to make Mr Reynolds feel better, about how "this thing has BLM, and Hillary, written all over it!". And then I saw - how QAnon is actually saying something like that- and its not even supposed to be taken as a joke! 8O QAnon beat me to the punchline!

It's hard to parody the far-right. Just when you think you're so over the top that no one could possibly take you seriously along comes some schmuck saying stuff even more crazy and he's dead serious.

This is a news story. It is placed in the "News and Current Events" forum not in the PPR forum. It boggles my mind that almost everything on this website is instantly viewed under a political lens. Why is that? It is simply a NEWS story. PERIOD

Good point. I don’t see any other class of people so greedy as to build a 400m long cargo ship to make as much money as fast as possible with.. so, it’s 100% those peoples’ fault. Thanks for pointing it out! :)

Doesn't boggle my mind at all, politics is what makes the world happen.
Politics decides what internet providers your neighborhood has.
Politics decides who can live in your neighborhood.
Politics decides what that gallon of milk you bought yesterday costs.
Politics decides the quality of that water you just drank from your tap.
Politics decides the price of that water you just drank from your tap.
Politics decides what health care and medicines are available.
Politics decides what those available health care and medicines cost.
Politics decides what food you can eat imported from where and for what price.
Politics decides what clothes you can wear imported from where and for what price.
Politics decides freight rates to get your clothes from seaport to either a store in your town or to Amazon.
And so forth and so on.

Is it wrong that I find this quite funny? (Rhetorical question). It's almost slapstick.

Could be worse ... some idiot could try to blame it on Biden/Woke Culture/Black Lives Matter.

I don't get it. A Taiwanese container shipping company had a ship run aground in the a canal in Egypt and suddenly U.S. politics.

I don't get why a ship that is longer than the canal is wide is allowed to use it. Maybe that's a lot of them though. Modern day titanic!

If it's wrong, then I'm wrong too. When an aerial shot of the ship showed up on the tv screen, both my husband and I chuckled. "Sucks to be that captain!"

US politics always find a way....

It seems like having ships that long is almost never a problem, although that might change after this, if not something else.

Actually, it is closer to nearly all of them than to a lot of them.

For fun and information here are some physical stats and dimensions from the people who actually run the canal.

Just found this which is interesting, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suezmax

Quote:
"Suezmax" is a naval architecture term for the largest ship measurements capable of transiting the Suez Canal in a laden condition, and is almost exclusively used in reference to tankers. The limiting factors are beam, draft, height (because of the Suez Canal Bridge), and length[1] (even though the canal has no locks).

Even World War Two era freighters( Liberty ships were 450 feet long) and tankers (typically 600 feet) were longer than the width of the Suez Canal now (300 feet). And today cargo ships are generally much bigger than then.

Tractor trailer trucks are longer than the width of a two lane highway. Like an 18 wheeler, or a bus, its the width they worry about. Not the length. Actually its the width plus draft (like road vehicles they dont want them sideswiping opposing traffic, but they also dont want them getting stuck on the bottom of the canal). Apparently the wheelhouse crew were so blinded by the dust storm (and maybe the canal zigs a little) that they managed to get the 1300 foot ship wedged into both banks of the canal.

There was also the force of the wind,
Quote:
A spokesman for the Suez Canal Authority told the New York Times that a sudden sandstorm with restricted visibility and high winds caused an “inability to direct the ship."

https://www.maritime-executive.com/arti ... ns-aground

And my Dad had plenty of first-hand experience with what the wind could do to a little 300 foot long remodeled WW2 Navy DD when maneuvering in close quarters, as well as similar with a longer and substantially taller AR.

EDIT: Oh! and while talking about maneuvering boats in strong winds, this from some UK narrowboaters I follow,

The US military spend trillions on useless arms yet don't have the infrastructure to tug a ship onto the beach??
