This Cook guy is suggesting there's no evidence the election was stolen or that trump will be reinstated? He's about to get shredded in the comments by NR's 'respectable conservative' reader base.

Just how far out there is Trump’s theory? Consider that, even if it were true that the 2020 election had been stolen — which it is absolutely not — his belief would still be absurd. It could be confirmed tomorrow that agents working for a combination of al-Qaeda, Venezuela, and George Soros had hacked into every single voting machine in the country and altered the totals by tens of millions, and it would remain the case there is no mechanism within the American legal order for a do-over of any sort. In such an eventuality, there would be indictments, an impeachment drive, and a constitutional crisis. But, however bad it got, Donald Trump would not be “reinstated” to the presidency. That is not how America works, how America has ever worked, or how America can ever work. American politicians do not lose their reelection races only to be reinstalled later on, as might the second-place horse in a race whose winner was disqualified. The idea is otherworldly and obscene.

This raises a very interesting question. What happens if the election was actually stolen and over the summer CNN and co are reporting that another "crazy right wing conspiracy theory" like the lab leak turns out to be true or at least plausible?

There is no mechanism for Trump to be reinstated in such a scenario, there is no dusty envelope that can be opened that reads "Procedure in case you discover the last election was stolen". Whatever chaos ensues, Biden is still legally the president. It's an interesting problem to consider and you never know, in the weeks to come, it may turn out to have been worth thinking about.

I would guess that such a procedure would have to be invented on the spot. I think the Supreme Court or some other body would probably invent a "reinstatement" protocol or arrange for another emergency election.

SCOTUS will not invent a constitutional amendment.
To pass a constitutional amendment 2/3rds of both houses have to propose it and 3/4ths of the states have to ratify it. In other word it won’t happen.

That is offensive to people who were diagnosed via the DSM5.

We all already now that. So in effect...you're not making any point at all. So since you have no point then why are you posting this?

You know full well that Clinton clip is not the same thing- as what Trump is doing now.

Do you post this stuff because you're a liar? Or do you do it because you're really are as ignorant as you pretend to be?

Those are the only two options. So which is it?

you're dead wrong that "both sides do it". In fact neither "side" does it. Only Trump.

Its not about "sides". One side being worse than the other. Right vs left.

Its about every other of the 45 American presidents (on one 'side'), and Trump alone on the other 'side'.

There is no precedent for any American POTUS acting like the dictator of a banana republic and trying to overthrow democracy the way Trump is attempting, or gives the appearance of attempting. No Dem, and no GOPer , defeated candidate for president in my middle aged lifetime has ever refused to concede an election (even ones like Nixon and Gore who lost razor thin elections in which there was some evidence that tiny local malfeasance, nonfeasance, or misfeasance, might have thrown things).

No living American has ever witnessed a loosing incumbent defying convention and denying the results of a decisive defeat in which there was no evidence of malfeasance - until now --the way Trump is doing now.

Gosh.

Here I am ...worrying about what will happen if...when the Navy gives its official report...the Navy tells us all that "yes - the space aliens are here- and they are already our rulers".

Now you're asking me to worry about what will happen with something far less likely: that Trump will uncover proof that the election was stolen from him happens.

Even though the evidence that the Navy is being harassed by gray men flying interstellar craft is thin... its thicker than that for the election being stolen.

But its an interesting hypothetical.

You would have to do a thought experiment. Pretend that its not a hyperdivisive figure like Trump.

If you're a Dem pretend that Mitt Romney,or Gerald Ford, who stole the election. Or if you're GOP that it was JFK, or even Obama (who was quite middle of the road).

And lets say it wasnt the candidate himself. Lets say North Korea hacked all of Americas voting precincts and stole the election FOR the guy, and it wasnt the guy himself who was the guilty party. Just to take recrimination off of the table, and keep it logical.

Okay.

So North Korea hacks our election, and steals it FOR Gerald Ford. Who is now serving as our POTUS. And now...half of a year into his term the scandal gets exposed.

What now?

What WOULD the powers that be do? What SHOULD they do?

Either question... boggles the mind.

In case anyone is wondering why the orange pumpkin is still relevant

KEY BACKGROUND

Trump has been fixated on the ongoing election audit in Arizona—which has yet to produce any substantial evidence of fraud—and has been advocating for other ballot reviews to be conducted across the country. His interest in an August return to the White House appears at least in part fueled by MyPillow founder and fierce Trump ally Mike Lindell, who floated the fantasy of a Trump August comeback on a radio show in May. Lindell took credit for inspiring Trump in an interview with the Daily Beast on Wednesday and the Washington Post reports the former president has been in conversation with Lindell and others about the election audits.

CRUCIAL QUOTE

Trump continues to publicly discredit the results of the 2020 election more than six months after the race was called. Last month, he said he would begin using the moniker “the Big Lie” to refer to his election loss.

TANGENT

The reports about an August return come as Trump’s more outlandish supporters advocate for antidemocratic maneuvers to vault the former president back into the White House. At a QAnon conference in Dallas this past weekend, Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security advisor, called for a Myanmar-style coup in the U.S. Flynn walked back those comments on Monday.

QAnon were instrumental in the Capitol riots. How these jokers are not in jail yet is an enduring mystery

I must admit I don't follow the news or politics as I think it's all a load of pants.
This time, though, Trump, if this is true, has taken the biscuit, he only had a term in office to show that it is possible for people who behave like narcissistic lunatics to become president, a sign of the whacko times we are living in.

Actually, he's been losing an alarming amount of weight. He looks ill.
Is it from COVID? Is it from stress?

(there are better (worse) pics out there but I can't find them at the moment)

His spokespeople claim it's because he's cutting down on the M&Ms.
Not likely...

Those who screamed "NONSENSE CONSPIRACY THEORY!", on either side of the political divide, must have very red faces.
It will be a long time before they live that down. :lmao:

Trump and the "My Pillow Guy" can share the same padded cell, and maybe even exchange straightjackets.
