the GOP is doing its best to turn us into a one-party tyranny.

From where I sit, neither party is interested in the best for the individual. 8)

Just caught the end of the "People's Pundit" analysis of the elections - Apparently even New Jersey was\is close (last election it was 56% to 42%, but is currently almost tied).

the democrats and ONLY the democrats have tried for generations to get us universal health care, while the GOPQ has done the opposite.

Things look grim for the Dems in Virginia, CNN and MSNBC are already screaming about racist dog whistles and all their usual favorite excuses.

It's interesting to see the type of people (or specific individuals) who can "hear" these racist dog-whistles, isn't it...

BTW, New Jersey is looking a lot closer\worse for the Democrats than anyone expected too - last update I saw had it 51% to 48% in favour of Republicans.

Heh, I think the kids these days would call what the cable news people are doing right now a cope, it's been entertaining to watch, I hope it holds up to the overnight count.

New Jersey really would be a game changer if the GOP pulls it out, people were panicking hard enough at the prospect of losing in Virginia, but New Jersey would be a giant red flashing warning light that couldn't be ignored.

Even should the Democrats win New Jersey (Virginia certainly appears unlikely), the fact that there has been such a swing against them there should be raising alarms for them.

On that note, I have heard from a reliable political source that Nancy Pelosi has decided she won't be running next year, as she's expecting a rather large loss for the Democrats in the mid-terms, and doesn't want to be connected to it\a victim of it.

I heard that rumor as well, but my source is definitely not someone I'd call reliable, so I'll have to hold off on breaking out the Cohibas. Which is just as well, as I've already got a Trinidad going just cause it's been a good night so far, and chain smoking good Cubans is just not something one does.

That's exactly why the right hates the left so much. That, and civil rights.

We have Medicare.
I have no idea if that is similar to what you mean by "Universal Health Care".
Our system works fine for me.
You guys should do the same, imo.

yours is a universal system, every australian citizen is a part and contributes via taxation. ours is not universal, not by a longshot. ours is a fragmented system with the lions' share of healthcare going to rich folk with Cadillac "full ride" plans where they pay not a cent, that is subsidized by obscenely high premiums and co-pays/penalties on the rest of us and only the most minimal health care in exchange, with many millions falling through the abyss-like cracks.

Apparently, Medicare is expensive to run, but it seems to work well in Australia and Kanada.
I think you need to put a whip to your Democratic representatives.
All out of excuses now that they are in government. 8)

Given it's a federal issue (not state, which is what the thread was discussing), and the Democrats control both houses and the executive branch, they shouldn't have any problem putting forward legislation to enable this - if it is something they truely believe in, and not merely words used to try and gain suport from the gullible with no intention of carrying through on it...

If they try and fail, at least they tried. If they talk but don't try - "actions speak louder than words"...
