Hysterics? did you watch his g/f? she was justified. Kim Potter is supposed to be professional, she's paid to keep her cool under pressure and not get hysterical or do something dumb like mistake a loaded gun for a tazor? how stupid do you have to be to mistake the weight/feel of a loaded weapon with a tazor???

Once she's finished her sobbing the 24 months (I suspect she won't serve the full term) will help her remember which holster she supposed to carry her tazor.

Pretty dumb for a 20 year veteran and the type of mistake that cost a young man his life.

I personally wouldn't let her back on the street as a cop as she is capable of making such stupid irresponsible mistakes.

Sorry don't buy the excuse.

Bravo! You give the best outrage speeches ever.

I was simply pointing out that it wasn't intentional.

Probably appropriate to point out that hell is paved with good intentions. I accept she made a mistake (or convinced the court she didn't intend to kill the kid) but its symptomatic of the American police attitudes toward certain groups of people whom they consider "criminals" or "suspect".

I watch the stories posted virtually daily on police brutality in the US and while the US does have higher crime rates than Australia or Canada or NZ or the rest of the English speaking world, one get's a sense there is something seriously wrong with the way American cops operate. People are legit scared of them.

Kim Potter, former Minnesota police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright, to be released from prison

Quote:
Kim Potter, the former Minnesota police officer who fatally shot Black motorist Daunte Wright in 2021, will be freed from prison Monday, the state department of corrections said.

The 50-year-old was sentenced to two years in jail in February 2022, convicted of first and second-degree manslaughter in the April 11, 2021 slaying of Wright, 20, in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center.

She has been in jail since Dec. 23, 2021 and has served 16 months at the Shakopee Minnesota Correctional Facility. After her release, she’ll serve another eight months on supervised release.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections said Potter will be monitored during the release for her protection.

"We will quickly adjust and alter our release procedures if we obtain information that indicates there is a credible threat to Kim Potter’s safety or the safety of others," the department said.

I wonder how many other murderers get protected after release like that.

High profile case and her face went viral. Similar to the Bolger murder in the UK where the two murderers were put under permanent protection after release.

There is nothing unusual about not serving full sentences.

Time Served in State Prison, 2016 - U.S. Department of Justice

Quote:
Persons released from state prison in 2016 served
an average of 46% of their maximum sentence
length before their initial release.

She was convicted of first and second-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 24 months which she served 16 of them which is two-thirds of her sentence which is above the average.
