GOP's a lost cause because they refused to disavow Trump at a critical time when a very few brave souls spoke out, such as Liz Cheney.

Now these folks actually want Pence as president.

Absolute insanity, isn't it? Playing the lesser of two evils game is what paved the way for Trump in the first place. Unfortunately, they will never understand that.

It's freedom of choice isn't it? I might ridicule the 75 million Trump lovers but they can do what they like.

That made absolutely no sense.

You were outraged Fnord could vote for Pence, Since when is that illegal?

That makes even less sense in regard to what VM said.

What exactly is the complication? it's not rocket science....If you can vote for Pence then why is Trump so bad

Mike Pence may get my vote in 2024 if he runs for POTUS, and for the simple fact he eventually stood up to Trump.

The fact he is not Biden is also in his favor.

Although if Harris also runs for POTUS, I may have to flip a coin.

So. You'd vote for a a,member of the Christian right, simply because he took on Trump? Wow!

This figures into something I said the other day: The worst damage Trump has done to this country is in the wake of his presidency. We're legitimizing bad people and institutions simply because the appeared to be against Trump.

That being the case I found Pence's running mate.

Yeah, that's a dream team, which will improve the country immediately.

You're veering into non sequitur territory. Let me sum up what I meant: It's a frightening place we find ourselves in. Voting for horrible candidates simply because they took on Trump will only ensure the U.S. will continue to decline.

The Civil War was surely the US's darkest moment?

That said, it isn't in an enviable situation today. But it wouldn't be practical for anyone to seek secession today...

And Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are about to be censured by the national RNC. The GOP, at this point, is the Party of Trump, and will be forever. Once you go hard right, you're branded as such for life, even if you move to the center at a later point.

This doesn't happen when one goes hard left. In Eastern Europe, some of the social democratic parties are actually the former communist parties that rebranded themselves. For example, Die Linke in Germany is the former Socialist Unity Party, which ruled East Germany. Moldova and Cyprus have elected communist presidents (Vladimir Voronin and Demetris Christofias, respectively).

Yeah, that is pretty much the case.

If Pence's running mate is an anti-vaxxer, a white supremacist, an ivermectin pitch-person, a coup denier, a MAGA/QAnon believer, a misogynist, or a Trump-lover, then I will vote for whoever runs against Pence.

If the running-mates are as bland as cold rice gruel, and Harris runs for POTUS, then I may have to flip a coin.

If Pence is the best the GOP can do, and Biden runs for a second term as POTUS, then I will go with Pence.

I will not vote for either "Orange Man" Trump or "Sleepy Joe" Biden.

(Forget about any third party candidates, please.)

If Charles Manson were alive today, and spoke out against Trump, I suspect there would people pleading for his parole.

It was just simple hyperbole to make s point.

Do you even know Pence's record as governor of Indiana? It wasn't pretty. He was very anti-LGBTQ rights.

I can't imagine them fielding him. People on the LGBTQ spectrum would rather stay away than vote for him if they don't plan on voting for the Democrats. Yes, he'd please the majority in the bible belt but doesn't have what it takes to be a Number One candidate.

Please drop the personal quarrel, guys - rather ignore posts that you don't consider worthy of a response. Thanks.

Manson shouldn't have been mentioned in this thread to begin with and any such references are not relevant to the topic.

(Thanks, En!)

My point is that there are virtually only two candidates in any presidential election.  Sadly, the "best" of either major party could not possibly be the best person for the job, and considering the current crop of potential candidates, any vote for POTUS is a vote for the lesser of two evils.

Pence v. Biden?  Pence
Pence v Harris?  Tossup
Trump v Harris?  Harris

Some choices, huh?  I am still waiting for someone who can lead this country without staging a coup or forgetting his/her own name.
