I want to point out that neo-Nazi are also tolerated in the US - should we invade US for it?

The Nazis in the US are hiding because they are cowards. The Nazis in the Ukraine (Azov Battalion) are openly active in Ukraine because they are receiving aid/money from the Ukrainian government and probably getting aid including weapons from countries that once fought against Nazism in WWII

Sure, this doesn't excuse Putin invading Ukraine but he now has an alibi. I am sure Poles aren't really friends with Azov batalion really since Ukrainian collaborators helped the Nazis kills so many Poles.

I think you misuse the word "alibi".

Please refer to my post on another thread Magz. Boris Johnson has the right idea to apply specific sanctions that will hurt Putin's pocket book.

If the tax payer is paying for their rent and food then yes.I’d bet some have even snuck into public office.

Putin is smart, but nothing he does is for anything other than his own power and control.

The propaganda he is spreading about the Ukrainian people is inaccurate and unfair, designed solely to serve his own goals.

I feel so helpless sitting and watching. But it also isn't like I could be in the least bit effective stopping any of it. It's all just so very wrong. My heart breaks for the people of the Ukraine.

The Ukrainian people are offering all the resistance the Russians can handle.

It’s possible that some Russians aren’t trying hard because they feel a certain kinship with the Ukrainians.

But what does Putin really want with Chernobyl? :?

Bring it back online to destroy not only Ukraine, but also countries like Ukraine? :x

No, he's securing the site and the material so the desperate losing side won't make dirty bombs with it. There will likely be insurgency after the main armed conflict is over. If some of the material escapes it could be used in an attack on Russian territory or elsewhere in Europe.

^^^ Yep, this sounds logical
Nope. If Ukrainians were such an evil regime, they would have done this years ago - they didn't and never planned to.

I didn't say the government necessarily would, the fringe groups that will run amok during the turmoil in the country would though.

Farkas said that even if Russian President Vladimir Putin has no interest in the decommissioned plant itself, Moscow would want to secure the facility, especially with the potential for a protracted fight with Ukrainian insurgents if Russia proceeds to occupy the country.

"They certainly don’t want loose nuclear material floating around," she said. "They understand the danger there."

Not to mention there are documented examples of Nazis trying to gain access to the nuclear facilities in recent years.

Live updates: Russian troops shelling nuclear power station
By The Associated Press41 minutes ago

Quote:
ENERHODAR, Ukraine — Russian troops are shelling Europe’s largest nuclear power station in Ukraine.

“We demand that they stop the heavy weapons fire,” Andriy Tuz, spokesperson for the plant in Enerhodar, said in a video posted on Telegram. “There is a real threat of nuclear danger in the biggest atomic energy station in Europe.”

The plant accounts for about one quarter of Ukraine’s power generation.

The fighting at Enerhodar, a city on the Dnieper River that accounts for one-quarter of the country’s power generation, came as another round of talks between the two sides yielded a tentative agreement to set up safe corridors inside Ukraine to evacuate citizens and deliver humanitarian aid.

The mayor of Enerhodar said Ukrainian forces were battling Russian troops on the city’s outskirts. Video showed flames and black smoke rising above the city of more than 50,000, with people streaming past wrecked cars, just a day after the U.N. atomic watchdog agency expressed grave concern that the fighting could cause accidental damage to Ukraine’s 15 nuclear reactors.

Quote:
BORODYANKA/LVIV, Ukraine, March 4 (Reuters) - The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the largest of its kind in Europe, was on fire early on Friday after an attack by Russian troops, the mayor of the nearby town of Energodar said.

There has been fierce fighting between local forces and Russian troops, Dmytro Orlov said in an online post, adding that there had been casualties without giving details.

Earlier, Ukrainian authorities reported Russian troops were stepping up efforts to seize the plant and had entered the town with tanks.

"As a result of continuous enemy shelling of buildings and units of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is on fire," Orlov said on his Telegram channel, citing what he called a threat to world security. He did not give details.

Reuters could not immediately verify the information, including the potential seriousness of any fire.

It is hard to say what damage the fire can cause, but video feed from the site shows that Russians are shelling it:

Kakhovka (near the plant) is one of the areas I've been looking at on live cameras on Youtube. I'm looking now and I see fires this happened within the past 12 hours or so.

[EDIT]

Don't see fire anymore.
