Ha, I am terrified as hell about the risk putin has created but the laughing helps keep the insanity away. Funerals are a good example of how humor can be effective at easing our pain. Telling a funny story about the deseased can momentarily lift the grief from our shoulders.

It's an innate coping mechanism.

Russia has been a nuclear threat since nuclear weapons were developed. A permanent nuclear threat.

The reason why people are talking about it now, is because the military threat level from Russia is peaking.

Even when there isn't war, there are Russians in military barracks and in outposts and at high-tech military bases, constantly managing physical territory.

Usually there a bits of violence here & there, but nothing newsworthy.

Military violence doesn't usually makes news unless at least a few dozen people have been killed.

So a person can imagine the countless untold stories of individuals murdered by military forces under different flags.

It is the way of the world.

Putin is saying if the US and NATO sends a large military force into Ukraine, he will use nukes. Nukes are a deterrent. And he's effectively deterring outside military action being taken. In other words, he's using the threat to scare the rest of the world away from invading his invasion.

I think the KGB might end up taking him out, if he risks all out nuclear war. Even his most loyal generals are not that crazy (to support such a move), I would imagine.
