What better way to conceal one's sociopathy than behind a mask of piety?

I wonder if Morrison will give the leadership to someone else if he loses the election.

A religious leader found to be at the heart of a sex scandal. In other news, the sun rose today.

Nothing against you, but it is a sad commentary on the state of the world today when news of a religious leader's adulterous behavior is greeted with yawns and shrugs, even from other religious leaders.

^ I totally agree. Speaking for myself, I have become desensitized to it because there have just been so many of these stories.

Indeed.

Now this: "Haven’t been at Hillsong" -- Morrison tells his biggest lie of all to avoid Houston fallout.

Desperate to avoid the toxic fallout from the resignation of his friend and mentor Brian Houston from Hillsong, Scott Morrison (30th and current prime minister of Australia) has told an astonishing lie today, claiming he hasn't been to Hillsong for "15 years" when pressed on the scandal by journalists.

"I haven't been at Hillsong now for over, about 15 years, I go to a local church," Morrison said this morning, professing himself "disappointed and shocked to hear the news".

But his efforts to dissociate himself from Hillsong are profoundly at odds with his enthusiastic support for Houston and Hillsong in recent years. For example, as recently as last year, Morrison publicly acknowledged the spiritual influence of Houston on his life, and in his maiden speech to parliament credited him with the pastoral work that helped guide his faith at an early age.

Morrison’s most recent and high-profile visit to Hillsong was in July 2019 when the prime minister — triumphant from his surprise election win — and his wife joined tens of thousands of Hillsong worshippers onstage for the corporation’s annual conference (an event Morrison regularly attends) to discuss his faith and religious freedom. Morrison “prayed for Australia” at the conference.

Morrison was interviewed on stage -- interrupted by wild cheering and applause from Hillsong devotees -- by none other than Brian Houston himself.

As a hardcore atheist, I simply laugh at the hypocrisy. :lmao:

Sanctimony and self-righteousness is usually a "red flag". ;)

I'm not a big fan of Morrison, but keep in mind that there will be an election in 2 weeks(?)
Politics is a dirty game.
Very dirty, and expect as much schmutz to come out on either side of the political divide.

Reason would suggest Morrison had no idea about what was happening at Hillsong.
Why would *any* politician put themselves in the position Morrison finds himself in now?
"Self-evident."

Sanctimony? I was simply agreeing.
I do concede I have a great disdain for politically active evangelical clergy, though.

Morrison is a slippery eel. But then again Trump openly lied nearly every day continuously for 4 years so the precedence is well and truly set.

On the topic of Houston, christianity permits forgiveness and if Houston openly repents (AKA Jimmy Swaggert) then I think Hillsong will remain. Hate the sin not the sinner formula has worked fairly well for evangalicals in the US who have fallen off the wagon.
