In defense of vaccines overall, I will share an anecdote, which I know isn't science, but it IS one more piece of information that, for me, provides credibility to the mainstream COVID-19 recommendations.
My son, who had neglected to get his booster as recommended, got COVID-19 a few weeks ago. He had traveled back home with his girlfriend (boosted) so she could celebrate her birthday with her family. He tested negative for COVID-19 on Saturday, and proceeded to engage in indoor, unmasked visits over the weekend with about a dozen people, all boosted. Him and his girlfriend stayed at our house Sunday night, and I (also boosted) had a reasonable amount of face to face contact with him that evening.
Monday morning he didn't feel well, isolated in his old room, and tested. He tested positive.
His girlfriend tested positive a week later (unclear if that was a prolonged incubation or she caught it elsewhere), but not a single one of his other boosted contacts ever tested positive. We had him isolated in our house for ten days and never caught it.
I say the booster works. The recommendations here in the US that exist are based in science, not politics.
