Yeah, it was the definitely the hat plus the fact that they were there for a pro life march. Combine those two "triggering" factors with the first video that was released and they built a narrative around it and ran with it. The second video is released which topples the first but they were too entrenched in their already established narrative. It is what it is.
Change my mind.

Whether or not it takes courage, is he wrong? Or are you just being insulting because you can't dispute his position?

If you had it your way he’d be in federal prison.

It is easy to trigger some people; all one has to do is state the obvious.  But then those same people will attack the person(s) who stated the obvious, and likely because they either cannot refute the obvious, or they simply do not like seeing the obvious being stated.

Is this the kid who committed the egregious offense of standing still? One of the greatest examples of much ado about nothing.

It’s not about standing,it’s the the rude smirk and attitude.
I was raised better, you don’t disrespect the elderly.If either of my children behaved that way towards an elder ,then they would have been grounded for weeks.Certainly not praised.No phone, no friends, extra chores.

^^^ exactly...at the very minimum the Washington Post shouldn't have given this kid "hush up" money as it will teach him that he can twist the truth about his innapropriate behaviour and he'll be rewarded

Not sure how he was actually at fault, Only thing that might have been irritating was him banging his drum which is what triggered the kids to use racial abuse toward him.

I see much ado about nothing.

But it wasn't mainstream media that created the fire, or that was feeding or calling for the doxing or taking other damaging actions. They were very far behind the social media spread, and had quickly moved beyond the edited clip to find the real or at least deeper story. Which might beg the question who is to blame when it gets so difficult to find the actual guilty parties, but it isn't as simple as charging at the deepest pockets.

As I've said before, I had memes and a shortened clip in my Facebook feed within minutes of the incident. Spread by FRIENDS who believed other friends. Long before a single news agency said a word.

I appreciated that my favored news sources were willing to spend time looking at how it all got started and off the rails so fast. The fact is was a story at all soon became the story for the mainstream media, and I think that was appropriate.

Fault belongs with the person who edited down that video and wrote the nasty label on it. That person was just a person spreading what they thought was cheeky gossip, not realizing there is no such thing on social media.

I made this point before, but I think it was hilarious to believe that CNN gave two s**ts about the Native American man being disrespected. They didn't care when Native Americans at the DAPL protests when the were being blasted with water cannons in sub freezing weather for protecting their water. There was basically a media blackout surrounding the sad story.

Yes, CNN started the fire by only presenting part of the story. I can't they have any viewers left at all.

To place the blame on whomever edited the video doesn't wash. CNN were fully aware of what they were doing. Anybody who believes otherwise...well, I got a bridge to sell you.
