Jewish Americans have always been more privileged in the US > black Americans. While the holocaust is more recent than slavery, the legacy of slavery persists in 2023

The most successful migrant group in the US are Nigerians. What's interesting is that most African Americans are descended from the region that became Nigeria.

Odd, I’ve read in the past that the immigrant group with the highest net worths in the USA are Jews followed by Hindus from India. In that same article they said the black community built the least amount of wealth and they pinpointed the reasons for the disparities between groups to being what economists call “bounce,” within a community.

Amongst Jewish Americans, money gets spent 8 times within the community before it leaves and is spent with others, creating prosperity. Whereas in the black community the bounce factor was less than 1, meaning money earned by black Americans is almost immediately spent with outside groups instead of within black American businesses. This lack of internal community support helps account for low net worths.

Yes sorry I should say "one of the" - I think it's Indians first, followed by Jews, Sri Lankans etc...I think Nigerians come in 5th or 6th

What do you mean by privileged? The US had strict quotas against "less desirable" people, that included Jews. See the Johnson-Reed Act... That act remained in place until 1965. We helped liberate them from the concentration camps, but we didn't make any concessions for them post liberation. The legacy of that persists in 2023, a blind eye is turned to anti-semitism.

Quote:
Immigration to the United States 1933–41

Many who sought a safe haven from persecution during the 1930s and 1940s found their efforts thwarted by the United States’ restrictive immigration quotas and the complicated, demanding requirements for obtaining visas. Public opinion in the United States did not favor increased immigration, resulting in little political pressure to change immigration policies. These policies prioritized economic concerns and national security.

I'm talking about Jewish people living in America after citizenship was granted. Not the millions who were blocked from getting visas to leave Europe in WWII

And you're talking from a biased perspective. Goldfish already gave you an example of why Jewish communities seem to fare better (they buy from each other) economically. They have been used to prejudice/persecution all over the globe and they pull together where ever they find themselves. If you think they were welcomed with open arms once they got to the US you should read United States Jewry, 1776-1985. They were tossed out by the Union Army until Lincoln interceded, prior to the American revolution they never exceeded 1/10th of 1% of the immigrant population but their tight communities helped them survive.

This is a clear case of 'don't steal my thunder.' The blacks have a relatively limited claim to persecution compared to Jews and when they are confronted with the 'whys' they don't like it. Of all the races Jews should find more support from Blacks, but quite a few high profile Black individuals are very vocal about their anti semitism and nothing is done about it, because they're black. When Mel Gibson did that he was cancelled. Modern day racism in the US is just fine with the establishment, as long as a black individual is the perpetrator. They're happy to take the Jewish dollar, though.

So, I guess I'm back to my original question, "why is the black struggle worse?" There's no Jewish History Month in the US, the mention of the Holocaust in history lessons is in passing. The key to Jewish success in the US is fairly simple: work and spending within the community. There is not some secret recipe to it. Yet still, here we are.

Universities are doing away with SAT's because they are exclusionary, applicants of any group not white (or Asian) male are favored. Yet still, here we are over 150 years after the Civil War. And nearly 60 years since desegregation and a change in the Johnson-Reed Act, both races have had drastic changes. One for the better, one for the worse. Why?

Could it be that constantly putting something in the face of a race is detrimental? Could it be that constantly reminding a people of their victimhood has taken the fight right out of them? And conversely, could it be that constantly reminding everyone else has done the exact opposite of what was intended (garnering empathy)?

I think these things are worth taking a look at, but there's no money in it. Money is all that matters in the US, if you make money (which the Jews do) people listen, even if they don't want to. There is a financial end to this, but I'm no economist. More will be revealed... BLM and various other organizations are making money, even if it's in an unorthodox fashion.

Anti-semitism is not ignored, especially not for black people. See Kanye West. Man was figuratively thrown into the sun, and rightfully so.

Don't worry. Racism conquers all in the end.

don't know him but read a quick summary and found black supremacist anti-white cult leader. I assume your point is that no one cared about that?

My point is that I believe it's leaders like Lewis Farrakhan who embolden people like Kanye West. Only the establishment isn't likely to benefit from any of Kanye's sentiments. It backfired on him, but not Lewis Farrakhan. He frequently includes anti Jewish rhetoric in his speeches and strangely enough gets no consequences. There is a known tension between many blacks and Jews, but not the other way around. Jews do not hate Blacks, they are too busy being successful. The only proof I have of my speculation is their success. Jewish persecution is minimized at every opportunity, and they charge ahead. They do not dwell on their long history of slavery, slights, extermination, etc... By contrast, the racism that we devote the most time to highlighting has done nothing lift blacks up. If raising awareness is the key to success, why isn't it working?

The manifestations are counterintuitive to what is supposed to be the solution. That is strange to me.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana, The Life of Reason, 1905. From the series Great Ideas of Western Man.

Santayana knew history was being tampered with at the turn of the 20th century, some 25 years before the rise of nazism and the banning of books. The republicans are literally trying to erase history by banning it's teaching starting in schools K1-K12 by raising the bogey of CRT (that is on the record as not existing in school) and now actually trying to erase history from College.

I'm very familiar with that quote.

How successful do you think they will be in erasing black history? Each February our class spends one month highlighting black history, it is a core part of the curriculum and standards. During that month we devote time to slavery, heroes, segregation and the sit-ins, bus boycotts, school integration, Ruby Bridges and the little children who were brave, lost their lives. I create a door devoted to black history, it stays up the entire month of February.

I am not privy to college discussions. My question is merely, "why isn't it working?" Your argument is hinged on erasing history, racism, etc... And I understand that. My argument is that even with a constant barrage of reminders, affirmative action, hate crime awareness and prosecution, has the plight of most blacks not improved?

Rather than focus on everyone else, what if a pilot program was started that followed the success of black business owners who spent their money entirely among themselves? Sign up would be voluntary, of course. And just see if the Jewish recipe works for them too?

Everyone is so opposed to looking within for answers, it's all about pointing the finger.
