And then there's the idiot furry who decided to accept an interview on Fox News.

Unless underage (less savvy, inexperience) is desirable. If so, why?

The gist of it is that Megaplex (a con I am considering attending this year) had to ban minors due to the wording of Desantis' recently passed laws.

Disappointing for those who are minors or who have kids who wanted to attend, but hardly news-worthy imo. I feel like the news outlets are making a bigger deal out of it than it actually is.

My cousins were very into Comicons, I think that's how it's spelled. Their parents attended with them. If a parent (or concerned adult )attends with the person under 18, there should be no objections to that, imo. Like the NC-17 movies...

I'd say with cons it's a bit different from NC-17 movies, it's more like a theatre that's showing several movies, including an NC-17 one. You're in the building with the content, but not in the room.

Restricting under 18s plays into the perception that minors are at risk. The state likely can't ban them entirely, but is also is using this as part of a broader 'queers are a threat to your kids' campaign.

Since the overall goal is to stir up and benefit from anti-queer sentiments it's hard to see it as anything but motivated by bigotry.

Are you asking why a fan community would want minors who are part of that fan community to be able to attend events related to that fan community?

I think they said 14% are heterosexual, so they would have a hard time saying it's only the gays they are worried about grooming individuals who are still minors.

I just don't see the bigotry aspect. I see the same scenarios playing out that infuriated teenagers since time immemorial.

I agree. When I was 13 I wanted to go to a Michael Jackson concert in the worst way, my parents banned me. When they reach 18, no one will ever be able to ban then from attending a Furry convention again. I didn't realize a parent couldn't even take their kid, that is a bit strange.

Does it matter what the actual composition of the group is, so long as most people perceive them as mostly queer?

After 9/11 many people were attacked by people with anti-Muslim sentiments, some of those victims were Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, atheists, etc. Did the sentiments behind the attack cease to exist because the target wasn't who the attacker thought it would be?

If they believe they're targeting queer people, it's hard to frame their actions as not being motivated by anti-queer sentiments - and it's fair to conclude they believe they're targeting queer people because the perception of them as queer is common enough for pejoratives like furfag to exist.

Most? I think a great many people don't even know who they are and don't think anything. I had to look them up and they are described as an anthropomorphic group, not a gay group. You have to read further to find out that many members are gay.

We disagree.

No, but last time I checked the map of the sexual predators living in our neighborhood, we were holding steady at about 52. Most of the folks living in our area are good, trustworthy individuals of all races, religions, sexuality, etc... Doesn't mean I'll let my granddaughter of 15 go a wandering without an adult. Kinda like a convention of whatever... :?

I can't imagine having a parent with me at 15 to trick or treat. 8O

having been exposed to things i should not have been exposed to when i was at a tender age, i have to admit the pic with the "cheeky" cheer-leaders dancing around the kids made me a bit queasy. that is a fuzzy [or furry] area for my thinking, i honestly don't know what should be done about that, or should it just be ignored? fuzzy/furry logic ain't workin' here for my neurons. all that said, desatan is IMHO a cheap killjoy, a censorious pill who is mad with power and like a bull in a china shop in terms of his promiscuous issuance of ridiculously picayune edicts that just hurt common folk that don't touch the real upper class evil types that no law can touch. he could be like the proverbial stopped clock that is accidentally right twice per day and i'd still reflexively oppose anything he was in favor of, support anything he was opposed to, and i'd enthusiastically befoul his tombstone given half a chance.

Anyway, I don't think many kids would visit a Furry convention
