Judge denies motion to acquit charges.
Todd Blanche, Trump's lead lawyer, tells Justice Merchan there is "no reason that the court should allow the verdict" because of Michael Cohen's testimony.
He says "perjury was committed" - claiming Cohen lied on the stand.
Justice Merchan then denies their motion to move for an acquittal of charges.

Predictably -
Within a few minutes of being convicted, Donald Trump's Truth Social account was posting fundraising requests.
"I AM A POLITICAL PRISONER," the post says, repeating a common accusation from Trump.
"If you can afford to help me FIGHT BACK at this pivotal moment, please DONATE!" the link reads.
His campaign has also sent out an email, which asks "Is this the end of America?"
"I was just convicted in a RIGGED political Witch Hunt trial: I DID NOTHING WRONG!"
The email also asks for campaign donations: "But with your support at this moment in history, WE WILL WIN BACK THE WHITE HOUSE AND MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Some of the people interviewed on the BBC Live page were saying an appeal will go nowhere - I assume because of the strength of the evidence, but ofc Trump etc. are playing it like it was all Biden's plotting and Cohen is a liar so the case was unfair. He's trying to make it Trump vs. Cohen, but the written and corroborating evidence nails him. At last.

Apparently, possibly not actual jail time - there was talk of a fine or some sort of home detainment. But considering others have/are serving time for their involvement in the same financial irregularities, Trump really should serve time too. It's not like he was an innocent bystander, despite all his bluster.
Sentencing will take place on 11 July at 10:00 local time, so...

He is going to appeal and there will in that case be an appeal hearing, so we'll have to see how that goes.
He doesn't waste time capitalizing on this politically though, does he?
I wouldn't be surprised if after filling the appeals that he just keels over of a heart attack or stroke. His health isn't particularly good and if he dies with pending appeals those counts essentially aren't considered guilty for the purposes of the legal record.

Then: "LOCK HER UP" Now: "Banana republic!!"
If nothing else, everyone here can agree that the long-term consequences of this should be quite interesting.

I hate to admit it but the verdict made me happy. Trump playing the victim card is getting old. He wasn't convicted on a few felony counts but all 34 of them. He is still harping on how the 2020 election was stolen from him even though it was thrown out of 60 some courts for lack of evidence. A lot of people are getting Trump fatigue
