that means she's carrying a recessive red gene so she must be BR
BR + RR = 50% chance kids will get red hair
Probability of two kids in a row getting red hair is 0.5 x 0.5 = 25% chance

Yes. And it ALSO means that there is fifty percent chance that her kid will have brown hair...50%x 50% =25%
Just like with red.

So by your "logic" if she had four kids one forth ...one would have red hair, and one would have brown hair, and two would have...WHAT? Green hair???

Ok...the odds would be even...so two would have red and two brown...but ...she stopped at two...so she only has the first two red heads.

She did NOT really "beat any odds" for practical purposes because...A DICE HAS NO MEMORY!

You can get three heads in an honest series of coin flips, and a couple can have three kids of one gender and none of the other even though the odds of getting heads and of getting girls are both fifty percent.

Hair and eye colour (phenotypes) are based on probability according to Austrian monk Gregor Mendel. Based on pea plants he correctly surmised that some genes are recessive and some dominant. However my memory of this concept is you can also have incomplete dominance so there may be multiple alleles rather than just 2 whereby you have an intermediate expression of a phenotype and different levels of expression. So for example eye colour can range from brown to multiple variants of colour all the way to pale blue.

As far as the math, yes, I think my math is roughly correct. P = 0.5 so the probability of 2 red headed kids (given red hair is recessive) is 0.5 x 0.5 which means if you have 8 families with parents of exactly the same hair types as Megan and Harry, then out of 8
Family 1 - 2 brown haired kids - BB and BB
Family 2 - 2 brown haired kids - BB and BB
Family 3 - 2 brown haired kids - BB and BR
Family 4 - 2 Brown haired kids - BB and BR
Family 5 - 1 Brown and 1 red head - BB and RR
Family 6 - 1 Brown and 1 red head - BB and RR
Family 7 - 2 red - RR and RR
Family 8 - 2 red - RR and RR

so 2/8 or 1/4 or 25%

so 2/8 or 1/4 or 25%

Exactly!
So Meghan and whathisname are either "family 7" or "family 8".
Exactly my point. Ergo there is nothing miraculous about them having two red haired kids even though (like most random events) it slightly off from probability.

I didnt say that your "math" is wrong. I said that your LOGIC based upon your math is wrong.

And also you're dragging in the concept of co-dominance.

Some traits...in some organisms...have a clean total dominance of one option over the other. You mate a tall plant with a short plant and you get tall offspring.

And with some traits the two traits blend in codominance. Tall crossed with short yields middle sized.

Whichever way the same concepts apply.

And indeed a codominant trait would be easier to track and understand than the other kind.

So lets say we have a fictional flower species that comes in a blue blossom or a red blossom. But if you cross them they come out purple.

So in the first generation cross you get...

........B B

R.......RB RB

R........RB RB

All four are purple.

But in the next generation...

..........R....B
R........RR..RB

B........BR...BB

One red, one blue, and two purple.

Except in THE REAL WORLD it wouldnt likely be that textbook perfect ratio with that small a sample...because A DICE HAS NO MEMORY.

Sure, I think I could have presented the data in a matrix as it makes more sense when you see the combinations in squares.

Yes Gregor Mendel had no idea of genetics. However we now know about meiosis and genetic recombination of sex genes between an egg and sperm. the process is random but involves recombining DNA/alleles from both parents. I do note that the current craze with DNA testing using companies like ancesty.com and 23 and me show some genes seem to not follow exact dispersion. For example its possible a child who is a combination of a parent like Megan Markle and Harry Windsor should be 75% European ancestry and 25% African American, but invariably the genes never exactly line up and I have seen videos of people who had grandparents from places like Ireland who instead of having DNA typical of Ireland instead show no celtic ancestry but more typical of Scandanavia or eastern Europe.

We all know what it f****n' means, Sherlock.

What I am asking is: what prompted the comment?

Whats it got to do with the subject?

=====

And it's "Germany OVER all". Not "above all".

Your Level of insite regarding other participants, and some of their monikers , maybe what prompted it , and obviously , since it did not ring correctly in your head... it was not meant for YOU braniac.....And the thread was not made about your opinion, on anything, others may write. Things that might be off topic to. some but not others...Whereas for others, it had the potential to be a positive gesture towards their current avatar symbol.....Forgive me if my "Off topic" , comment may have caused you to stub, the toe of your psyche ......Against my conceptual Gesture........
