I remember that. I remember being hounded into the empty lot behind the old garage gas station. The boys would tease me and poke me and tear at my skirt and if they tripped me up they held me down, some sat on me, some just smacked my face while I cried.
I guess a lot of my self esteem is still there in the weeds and broken glass and smells of old oil.
I just wish that was all that happened to me . . .I just wish it was only once, too.

Have schools started doing anything to prevent this kind of thing? Or even acknowledge it?

Back in the 80s and 90s, it was ignored at the schools I went to. There was a lot of discussion about the dangers of racism and sexism, but all the adults ignored the main reason kids were bullied: social awkwardness or inability to fit in. Some of these kids would constantly harass the nerdy kids like me and then act like they were good citizens because they were against sexism and racism. I've always thought that all hatred and abuse is equally destructive, no matter what the source is.

yes, and remember not just the nerdy kids. Fat people are the free ticket to anyone who wants to criticize - the idea being they CHOOSE to be fat, and there fore have brought the stigma upon themselves.

my heart is aching! I can't believe stories like this don't get more air time. From the sound of the superintendent on the piece, the kids were "dealt with". Not severely enough!!

I could not get the video to play.

I remember being chased by kids throwing rocks at me every day after school in grade school. There was a house at the place where i couldn't run any further, and I knocked on the door and asked to be let in to be safe from the rock throwers. The woman there would do that for me every day.

schools still don't do anything I got knocked out in high school cause some $%^hole was way too close for comfort hitting on me to make me uncomfortable, we got into a fight after i asked tha the back away surprisingly calm twice and because his $%#$hole friends said he didnt do anything he got off with out any repercussions and i got a 3 day suspension.

Seriously I was known for being quiet, unassuming and never made it a point to tick anyone off and this jerk had a reputation for doing the exact opposite school staff lack the figurative balls to take such things into account and would rather pretend everyone get's along.

This sort of attack using mobile phone video camera is now common in the UK. They attack anyone who stands out.

I am very lucky that I went to a school where I was encouraged and helped in every way.

on these attacks being taped I think Einstein phrased it best "Our Technology has far exceeded our humanity." I mean how callus ,inhuman and pathetic do you have to be to not only attack someone because you can but record it like it's something to be proud of and show it off.
