Transgenderd Woman Sues Discriminating Catholic Hospital

SAN FRANCISCO—A transgender woman is suing a Catholic hospital in Daly City, claiming medical officials blocked her from getting surgery there because she had a sex-change operation.
Fifty-seven-year-old Charlene Hastings already had one major surgery she needed to become a woman. But she says when she called Seton Medical Center to inquire about breast enlargement surgery, an official told her it wasn't "God's will" for her to get that treatment.
Hastings says her plastic surgeon told her Seton wouldn't allow him to operate on transgender patients there.
She filed the discrimination suit Dec. 21 in San Francisco Superior Court.
A spokeswoman for Daughters of Charity Health System, which runs the hospital, says the surgical coordinator was following hospital policy in refusing Hastings' surgery.

This sounds like a person with an agenda who wants to sue to try to force the Catholic hospital to violate their religion (which would make it a non-Catholic hospital). This person should be required to reimburse the hospital for their legal costs after she (or whatever you call it) loses. Freedom of religion is an important right in America that must be protected.

I wouldn't say that such people are beastly, but it's certainly disgusting to behold.
Unless you've been born transexual, without a defined sex, or have been genitally mutilated against your own will, I don't think that such surgery is needed or acceptable.

It's body modification. The hospital had every reason to deny that based on religious grounds, especially to someone who was born a male. He's not a woman at all.
You are evil. He was Born with male Genitalia, it does NOT Mean he's a male. everyone deserves to be who they truly are, physically emotionally and mentally.

Wait so you are saying it's acceptable to do it to someone against their will? I think it is needed. Transgendered people don't want to go living life in the wrong body. I think it's wonderful, not disgusting! it's a chance for them to be the gender they feel they truly are!
This is just another example about how you have low tolerance for people different then you, and how you discriminate.

Well then, what does this have to do with weird things at the bottom of a lake?

The lawsuit serves the hospital right for not being smart enough to think of a better excuse than "it's not god's will"; obviously there'll be some sort of big deal made over such a comment. Anyways, I guess that hospitals can turn patients away if, for what ever reason, they feel it is unsafe to perform a sugery (unless the alternative is death, which in this case it isn't), certainly envoking the wrath of an all powerful being is dangerous (if one believes in such things).
How exactly is something a crime, when the person is doing nothing wrong? And before you say it is wrong, how can it be wrong when no one is harmed in the process and no one else's rights are being violated? You seem to have a skewed view of what constitutes 'right' and 'wrong.'
It's body modification. The hospital had every reason to deny that based on religious grounds, especially to someone who was born a male. He's not a woman at all.
That isn't actually true. "He" is a woman IMO. Sex and gender are two different things. Someone can be born male, but that does not necessarily mean they are a man. The terms 'man' and 'woman' refer to gender, which is a social construct.

You cannot be born a transexual in the way that you are suggesting. A transexual is usually someone who takes hormones and has surgery to physically change their sex. Therefore how can someone be born a transexual? What you mean is intersex. You really should learn what these words mean, if you're going to use them.
Although now that you mention intersex people, why is it (in your opinion) necessary for them to have surgery? They shouldn't need to be changed to fit into "male" or "female." After all, surely that would be a "crime against nature?"
And, as for whether or not it is needed, you should think about the kind of problems these people have to go through. Gender dysphoria can cause severe depression for years.
According to studies, 20% of pre-op transexuals attempt suicide at one point or another. I think you should re-consider your view that it's not 'needed,' although I doubt you will. Having a sex change operation isn't like getting plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. What would this person have done when there was no actual treatment which could realign someone's chemicals to make them appear to be the opposite sex? They'd still be their original sex genetically.
I do not hate such people, I just do not believe that it is right.
NO. The only exception, in my opinion, is when men have been genitally mutilated against their will, and want sex realignment as they have lost their manhood.
Until such a time when you can effectively regrow penile tissue.
I'm sorry, but I don't believe that it's justified or... right ... to do such things.
I mean, I think many people love the opposite sex so much that they just want to be them sometimes, but heck, actually going through with it? They wouldn't be truly the opposite sex. No more said. The right body is the body you are born into. You are born male, your senses are male-orientated, etc. XY, XX, that's how you're born, and no amount of cosmetic modification is going to change that. Your hormones and mind can control your sexual orientation, too. And it should not be forgotten that I fully support homosexual rights, with the exception of the term "gay marriage", in the name of the traditional, strong family upbringing. Civil unions, yes. It's that people are falsely changing their sex, and that it is not something that they need at all. Same goes for all other non-essential/reconstructive/etc cosmetic surgery.
I'm a bigoted, nasty person am I, for being against some ethically questionable things, and being ever so slightly socially conservative? I thought you knew me better than that. I don't think it's wonderful, no. In the same way that I don't think that seriously believing that you're a dragon is wonderful, but sad. What more can I say? You yourself are calling me evil for being against something like gender realignment surgery. I am not being hateful.

It's not right or wrong. It just is.
Again, you're talking about things you do not understand. It is not about wanting to be a different sex, but rather, feeling you were born the wrong sex. And this is supported by evidence that the brains of MTF transexuals are similar to those of women who were born female.
Sex change is not the same as getting a boob job or surgery to make yourself look better. And gay marrigae is another issue entirely. Nothing wrong with that either.
There is nothing ethically questionable about allowing someone the right to live their life as they want to, in a way which does not harm you in the slightest. What is ethically questionable IMO, is claiming that transexuals are committing a "crime" against nature. Shadesofme is correct.
Not the same at all.
Nothing. Becuase you have no way of backing up your argument.

"Intersex" people, need some sort of definable sex, even if it is fake. It's better than having no sex at all. Of course, it is always easier to turn someone into a "pseudo-female" than it is to pseudo-male.
I apologise for not using the exact terminology, but I don't research such things.
Genes define your physical sex and gender most of the time.
Your sexual orientation and gender behaviour are formed by a combination of external and internal factors. However, believing that you're truly a member of the opposite sex trapped in the wrong body, is probably a mental disorder, unless your genetic makeup and body is in such a state that your physical sex characteristics are weak/obscured.
This all extends to nature vs nurture.
Suicidal thoughts need to be treated. Perhaps such things may be due to a hormonal imbalance. Anywho, antidepressants work marvels. Inevitably, however, weak minded individuals may kill themselves, and it is to their own ultimately foolish loss and to that of all those who care or depend on them.
I would not personally prevent such cosmetic surgery, I am just highly reserved over it.

That's not actually true. A substantial amount of people who were born neither male or female, but "corrected" at birth, end up even more confused throughout their childhood and adolescence, knowing that something isn't right. Much in the same way that most other transgendered people feel. Only this is due to society forcing people to have to fit into one or the other, when they're clearly not.
Also, they do have a sex. It's just not one of the two main ones. IIRC there are at least 5 medically recognised sexes. And, like you said, it is easier for them to become female than it is male. But that isn't going to be the right choice for the majority of them, who will then be forced to grow up as a "girl", made to wear skirts and play with girls' toys and take classes such as PE with all the girls, when they know themselves that they are NOT a girl.
If they are born neither male of female, they do not need to be turned into one or the other. They are themselves and should be brought up as a person, an individual. Not a girl or boy or male or female. Just as themselves, until they are old enough to understand and make that decision if and when they want to.
No problem. I may have been too harsh before.
Physical sex and gender are usually the same, yes. But for some people, they're not. And I see no reason why they shouldn't then take the necessary hormones etc, so that their physical sex can match their gender. Society views people by what sex they are, externally. Not what gender they identify as. People generally aren't as understanding or accepting of people who's gender and sex are not the same. But it is obviously easier to change someone's sex to match their gender, than the other way round.
Most (if not all) transgendered people, when asked, can recall incidents in their childhood which they can now attribute to their being transgendered. They can remember feeling that they were 'in the wrong body' almost as long as they can remember. Gender behaviour is more about stereotypes, so that is mostly due to external factors, but gender in and of itself is about the person's mind. Gender identity isn't as simple as how the person acts and behaves, it's about who they are.
They can do. But not always. And they can't cure the problem, only lessen it, at best.
Suicide isn't for 'weak minded individuals.' A lot of people who kill themselves do so after suffering for years and enduring alsorts of problems which, in some cases, cannot be fixed. It is a last resort for most people. I have lost a friend to suicide, and yes, it is one of the worst things you can go through for the people who care about them and depend on them. But once someone reaches the point where they are so desperate to end their suffering, they often have got so low that they can't see these things. At least, not in a rational way. Some people actually believe that the people in their life will be better off without them, or they don't realise just how much people care about them (other disorders can cause feelings like this). So although it can seem foolish to others, to them, what they're doing is the only option they have. They can't see any other way out.
I can understand that at least. I have seen someone who (for whatever reason, depression, age etc) has been confused about their gender at one point. However, that usually doesn't last long, and they wouldn't be able to go as far as hormone treatment and surgery, if they weren't 100% sure. Whereas with people who do actually get the treatment, from what I know, they are people who have been aware of some kind of gender/sex "problem" all their lives, and have to have been living as the other sex for at least a certain amount of time and have been visiting a psych, before a doctor will prescribe them hormones etc.
It's body modification. The hospital had every reason to deny that based on religious grounds, especially to someone who was born a male. He's not a woman at all.

We always disagree, Nub, because you usually take on a prejudice, misinformed, mean tone. You make people feel bad for who they are, or for who they are meant to be.
That is unless, you believe that there are bands of Jesuits and Catholics secretly going out and committing every murder, and rape, as well as preventing helpless people in need of changing their sex.
Probably likely.
And seriously, "beast"? Come now. I'm sure you do a lot of things we all don't know about that'd make you a "beast". Just 'cause you haven't done something physically drastic like getting a vajayjay (or peener? I don't know what gender you are). Seriously. You don't have to feel sympathy for someone doing something you don't agree with, but you definitely don't need to call names either -.-
Heh, beastly
beast (bst)
n.
1.
a. An animal other than a human, especially a large four-footed mammal.
b. New England & Southern U.S. A large domestic animal, especially a horse or bull.
2. Animal nature as opposed to intellect or spirit: "So far the beast in us has insisted upon having its full say" William Dean Howells.
3. A brutal, contemptible person.
This trangendered being seems to fit the definition for it showed no intellect to notice that he was entering a Catholic hospital. Such a blatant act for attention makes him contemptible to me.
Besides, why would anyone want to change their gender? That is repulsive and an utter disregard of nature. It is stupid. I might as well paint myself black and live in Djibouti, then cross dress so I can get cat-called by the men at work. What purpose will that serve? Will it make me happier? I highly doubt having your sex changed will make you happier as it is only used to mask the insecurity people feel. You are still the same person deep inside.
Such a person will be referred to as an "IT" by me. None of this political bs. It is not beautiful. This "I was meant to be 'blah blah blah'" is stupid. You were meant to be who you were meant to be born as.
Take for example reincarnation. You might have been a female in your past life, but have you been awake enough to realize that your past has died and now you are who you are in this world? in this body?

Ok, You are now going to be called "it" by me. better yet, i'm going to ignore all posts you make besides this one. They aren't Objects. They are human beings. just like you. Changing your sex is not "masking the insecurity they feel" People would want to change their appearance to that of another gender, because that is who they are inside. They are not still the same person "deep down in side" They are the gender they feel they were meant to be. Just because you are born with the genitals of one sex does NOT mean thats what your gender is.
They don't want to change their gender. They want to change their sex so that it reflects their gender.
Why?
I could argue that computers are a 'disregard of nature.'
Of course they are the same person inside. They don't want to change who they are inside. And there is evidence that it DOES make a lot of people happier. They can finally live as the person they feel they should be, and the suicide statistics of pre-op transexuals seem to back this up.
She's not an "it." She's a "she." That's not being politically correct; it's showing some basic decency towards other people, something which you don't seem to be able to grasp.
Reincarnation has nothing to do with this.
Reincarnation has nothing to do with this.
Erm, yeah, what the Heck does reincarnation have to do with this????
Ha, you people make me laugh.
A computer is not a human. Perhaps many of you might live on the computer but that doesn't make it living.
It is not a "she." A dog can suddenly feel it is a cow. First it tries to moo, then to graze. Would you still call it a cow? I wouldn't. I'd call it a stupid dog.
The reincarnation was an example. I'm sure you understood that.
It is not decent to lower yourself by going against your beliefs--as you two aren't. I believe that "enhancing" or "correcting" yourself because you don't feel right in your body is stupid. That person did not breast cancer, which brought it to lose a breast. That would be an excusable reason to get breast-enhancement, certainly if it was a she.
After this being becomes a "she", what would her documents be? It isn't a she, it wasn't naturally born that way. Would you feel correct if this person followed you in the restroom or wherever "women only" go? I find the thought of you two defending this position hysterical.
