I hope these things get outlawed in Germany if they are legal at all!

This just made my local noon news. I have very sensitive hearing and I'm sure I could hear that at my ripe old age of 38. The news story said even churches use it.

They should ban them, and do what they did in the olden days when trouble was brewing outside a store:

Release the hounds.

It's a non-issue. Everyone has an ipod.

In Vista, CA, a laundromat owner found something that kept young people from congregating in front of his shop. He began piping Mozart through speakers located outside. He did have to put metal screening around the speakers to keep them from being destroyed, but after that, it worked like a charm!

This is another argument for using old folks' homes as a source of cheap labor, especially when the generation responsible for the Clintons, the New Dems, and the DLC have gone into retirement. They're the same generation who had the wonderful idea of using drugs to compensate for their failures as parents.

Sorry folks I'm here to officially announce its the FUTURE.

Right now.

You lived too damn long.

Imagine EVEN CONCEIVING of such a thing in 1985?

I remember thing Star Trek The Next generation was unrealistic because of touch screen technology.

We're doomed.
Creativity is dead already.

someone did something similar at another place in the States; they played Frank Sinatra, and other swing stuff; and (most cruelly) replaced the flat posts and trashcans with pointed ones, so no one had a place to sit..;)

I would say that this would be a violation of typical municipal noise-control laws, but I live in the States. I have no idea how Big Brother England handles things like this. I sure hope that there is a law against this sort of thing in England. I'm 18 and those frequencies irritate the s**t out of me, moreso than the typical teenager. However, being the geek that I am, I would fight back with my own frequencies that everyone could here... :P

I'm a teen, but my hearing range is tilted towards lower frequencies- I can only hear up to about 16000 Hz. So such devices as this don't bother me at all. Even so, I think it's pretty sadistic to use one of these.

a council in queensland used a record of barry manilow music to deter teens apparently and it worked. of course when barry heard about it he got a bit offended. having his music used to get rid of people, he said "you will have carloads of 30 year olds instead."

I would prefer if it wasn't banned, being a 17 year old myself. I would prefer to hear an annoying high pitched voice than be surrounded by intimidating rowdies.

I don't see why people are so concerned about the human rights of these drug dealers, muggers, robbers and murderers. The people who are worst hit by the mosquito are these these criminals. I'm willing to put up with the noise myself.

The government doesn't seem to be doing much to stop these gangsters and youths, and when they do, campiagners go against it.

I don't. I have an mp3-player, but I prefer quiet to music in most cases and think headphones are either too big or too uncomfortable.

I'd really hate to encounter such a thing and would call the police for ... Lärmbelästigung is it called in German. It'd be a task to tell the policemen the problem, but it'd be worth it!

If these things start popping up everywhere it could be dangerous for young drivers that will hear them.
