I think what he said was awful and very wrong, but I bet he didn't realize what it meant and the history behind such a remark. He probably heard some NT kid saying it and thought it was OK or just a regular putdown.
I've experienced some statements from my daughter that on the surface seem terrible.
Example:
Situation...Daughter playing with neighbor kids.
Daughter makes statement about playmates little brother......Something along the line of..."I wish he would go away".
Neighbor kids mother says.....But "Little Timmy will always be with us"
Daughter answers "Not if he's DEAD!"
Literally true.
Needless to say my daughter is learning that this is inappropriate.
But not a unusal statement if you know anything about AS.
