I still hate Wal Mart and will never go into their stores again, the only reason they dropped this is because people were rightfully outraged and sickened by this story.

Also people really need to see the documentary "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price". That'll change alot of people's perspective on this company.

I think it actually helps that they finally did the right thing because people asked them to.

The only reason they dropped the lawsuit was because of the media backlash. The trial was actually in appeals, as Wal-Mart had already won the first go around, and the woman's husband wrote them a letter asking if Wal-Mart could just let them keep the money and say they won on principle. Wal-Mart said "no" so the husband was forced to file an appeal. It wasn't until the media got a hold of the story and the public started throwing a big fit, that Wal-Mart finally decided to drop it for good.

I think they mentioned the son dying in Iraq to add to the fact what a rough run of luck this family has had. The husband just recently recovered from a bout of prostate cancer, he had to legally divorce his wife because of financial problems, and then their son was killed. I feel that was their point in mentioning that. Wal-Mart didn't cause any of this, but they could have had the heart to step back and say "hey, we made like 5 billion dollars last year, let's just drop this one and send the family our well-wishes." But these big corporations get too wrapped up in the stupid rules and forget about the human side of things...

The thing is, the government does this to wounded veteran soldiers every day and no one says a darn thing about it. I could go into a whole tirade about that, but I won't.

Its great that they decided to drop the lawsuit, it wasn't the best advertising, and is only chump change for them, I still don't like the companie, or their cult like business management, but I do like the cheap prices, so what can you do?

May a thunderbolt knock me out but I agree with Zendell. I don't think it's "fraud" per say but Walmart is entitled to recoup their "losses" in an accident case like this. The family lawyer should be disbarred and sued for malpractice if he convinced the family to proceed with keeping the money. He's admitting that Walmart is right but that they should be nice about it. He also looks like he was trying to outlast the statute of limitations with his "3 years" comment. As if Walmart wouldn't have the right to any monies because it had been too long.

I don't shop there ever but this is a really dumb article. BTW, she's not "braindead", she's brain damaged and living in a nursing home. Big Difference.

It's so nice to see nuanced discussion. :)

Even nicer to see it from fellow persons who would not shop at walmart. . .
