I thought the same thing about the book called "illussions" when I was a kid.It helped me right up to the time I went insane

Actually I don't see anything wrong with someone sharing something that they found helpful. It is certainly better then wanting to share their VD .It is just when they try and shove it down your throat and say you are going to hell (talken to you born again family)if you don't do as they do, that I get a bit perturbed...I don't think the OP was doing that...Just feeling happy and wanting to spread it around.

I'm glad you found something that worked for you. Enjoy the happiness while you have it.

If this has been "boiled down" to a science, then scientific method will apply, right? So how about sharing the specifics of the method as applied here? What is the :
1) observation?
2) hypothesis?
3) test devised?
4) evidence of repeatable results
I am very interested in the science behind this. Also what independent lab has verified the results?

I think the Secret is an excellent idea and has some positive applications.

Basically in a nutshell it is tireless positive thinking. It is not magic at all. It is just applying so much positive thinking to life that your perception shifts.

The problem with this is that if you have a lot of anger or upset in you it is hard to keep up the positive thinking. I think all the bad stuff in us is the stuff that needs attention, and until we deal with this stuff and figure out how to solve this problem it is impossible to adopt a mainly positive mindset.

i heard the author of "the secret" book was involved in a stockbroking business and then ran off with investors monies.

the positive thinking thing makes sense and has been written about in loads of books. but it is not perfect because it can deny the negative stuff that needs attention. and without attention the negative stuff will get worse.

i have heard of another book someone wrote where the principle was to keep positive but also to acknowledge negatives and try to fix them.

"The Secret" isn't a secret at all, it's just the law of attraction bundled up and hyped up and sold on for a profit. There's no secret to it; the law of attractions has been talked about and discussed for millennia. Nothing new about it except the packaging and the marketing experts.

I am with you on Bardon. I have all of his books, well worth the money too.

My big problem with 'The Secret' is as follows:

1) It's no 'secret' at all
2) There's no 'ancient wisdom' that's been 'suppressed for centuries' to it - it's just the law of attraction; yes, it's been around for centuries but certainly not suppressed and definitely not a secret!
3) The film and book just focus on material gains - getting money, getting wealth, etc - but exploits the teachings of those who go AGAINST that to do it. It's like a narrative on how to be a rich, greedy a**hole.
4) It comes across as a brainwashing trip. I have no problem with self-help books and actually read a lot of them and own a lot of them, but 'The Secret' just pisses me off.
5) I hate the way it goes on like people who are down and out - those who really crap things happen to etc - have those crap things happen because they brought it on themselves and don't think positive enough. Yeah, tell that to a victim of the 2004 tsunami, tell that to an African AIDS victim, tell that to a woman in Darfur, tell that to an Iraqi child...

It's just awful, so so awful. By all means read self-help books, but don't buy into this greedy, selfish, worthless and shameless 'phenomeno'... it's so dubious and so vile. Ugh.

No ,your right the secret is no secret at all , its just what they decided to call it. I'm sure it may have been a bit confusing if they called the movie the law of attraction . I don't think many people would have watched it if they had . I think they just took a few artistic liberties with the name , besides it has been called so many things in the past.

They said something about that in the movie.
"what your resist persists" They went on to say you cant ignore when something bad is going on in your life, you need to pay attention to what emotions your body is giving you. They said to acknowledge how you feel and then let it go. There not saying to ignore your negative emotions , if you do that they will over whelm you. You need to listen to what your emotions are telling you , solve the problem then try to see the good in your life.

It has been proven by a science. Quantum physics is finding out this is true along with many other things, its amazing the things they are finding to be true.

LeKiwi I'm sorry the film and book have offended you so badly. I can understand where you are coming from , its not fair to blame those people . You are right in that respect , I fully agree with you I am in no way trying to push by beliefs onto you .You are fully entitled to agree or disagree with any point I make . I may debate a point with you but it is all in the fun of discussing something.

So which quantam scientists have proven it? Where? With what research?


Have you looked into Emotional Freedom Technique? That's the acknowledging bad things and letting them go... but it'll never tell you that you brought the problem on yourself by thinking negatively. And it doesn't tell you to shun the downtrodden because they'll just drag you down to their level...

The Secret is so egotistic, it's just repulsive... "Shun the poor and needy, they brought it on themselves, use 'ancient wisdom' to make yourself rich and greedy..."

I read that book.

Well, there is a certain climate where to talk about some things seems inappropriate and knowing that I can so easily be the one to say exactly the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time, well, some things I don't mention

I still have the Secret though, its a nice easy and inspiring read, like a novel where the princess always gets her man
