What do you call this? I'd call it abuse. I'd call it your dad being a disgusting coward of a man who beats up on pregnant girls. And this is OK cuz you're all Muslim?

Nope, sorry. Don't you dare make excuses for this.

My Dad was not a Muslim at that time. He was a heavy drinker. He reverted to Islam 10 years ago, but is still verbally abusive. Yes, I think it's very cowardly. Btw, I edited my previous post. Read it.

Anyway, I don't want to comment on my Dad's behaviour. Wife beating is common everywhere.

Islam seems to be a hiding place for cowardly men who put on a show of strength. I am totally unimpressed.

And why exactly must you be anti-Islam when all these problems exist in your country? I could mention a lot of things, such as the high violent crime rate in North America, that 1 million sex slaves are imported against their will annually, etc. I could target your religion, your community, but I didn't, until you forced me to.

THese problems do exist in my country, of course. But they are not sponsored by religion and our culture does not look the other way as yours does. I realize, of course, tha not all Islam is still living in the stone age. What piques my ire is someone, civilized like yourself, attempting to apologize for it. Obviously you are not one of those savages.

Since you brought religion into the topic, check out http://www.evilbible.com/

A sample quote:

Quote:
So they sent twelve thousand warriors to Jabesh-gilead with orders to kill everyone there, including women and children. "This is what you are to do," they said. "Completely destroy all the males and every woman who is not a virgin." Among the residents of Jabesh-gilead they found four hundred young virgins who had never slept with a man, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh in the land of Canaan.

The Israelite assembly sent a peace delegation to the little remnant of Benjamin who were living at the rock of Rimmon. Then the men of Benjamin returned to their homes, and the four hundred women of Jabesh-gilead who were spared were given to them as wives. But there were not enough women for all of them. The people felt sorry for Benjamin because the LORD had left this gap in the tribes of Israel. So the Israelite leaders asked, "How can we find wives for the few who remain, since all the women of the tribe of Benjamin are dead? There must be heirs for the survivors so that an entire tribe of Israel will not be lost forever. But we cannot give them our own daughters in marriage because we have sworn with a solemn oath that anyone who does this will fall under God's curse."

Then they thought of the annual festival of the LORD held in Shiloh, between Lebonah and Bethel, along the east side of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem. They told the men of Benjamin who still needed wives, "Go and hide in the vineyards. When the women of Shiloh come out for their dances, rush out from the vineyards, and each of you can take one of them home to be your wife! And when their fathers and brothers come to us in protest, we will tell them, 'Please be understanding. Let them have your daughters, for we didn't find enough wives for them when we destroyed Jabesh-gilead. And you are not guilty of breaking the vow since you did not give your daughters in marriage to them.'" So the men of Benjamin did as they were told. They kidnapped the women who took part in the celebration and carried them off to the land of their own inheritance. Then they rebuilt their towns and lived in them. So the assembly of Israel departed by tribes and families, and they returned to their own homes.

evilbible.com wrote:
Obviously these women were repeatedly raped. These sick bastards killed and raped an entire town and then wanted more virgins, so they hid beside the road to kidnap and rape some more. How can anyone see this as anything but evil?

Like Confucius said... I don't need to repeat the quote, do I? ^^

Yes, it's true, my Quran also does have a few hair-raising commands, such as being allowed to slay pagans (during a seige) after the three months following Ramdhan have passed and they have not yet surrendered. However, the horrific commands in my religion are a tiny molehill in comparison with the Christian mountain.

I see what you're getting at, but isn't that an Old Testament story?

And isn't from The Evil Bible? Hmm, that's gotta have some negative bias somewhere ...

... of course, it's an ATHEIST WEBSITE! :D

Yes, it is. So you will pass it on to the catholics and jews as protestants don't read the old testament?

Get over it. Every religion has the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Yes, it's an atheist website, and they're quoting the bible. They're quoting it.

Of course, there are quotes from the new testament too, for example: http://www.evilbible.com/Jesus_Lied.htm

It's blatant anti-Christian propaganda. I don't need to read it to know what's there.

But you're reading the bible, which you always read. :D

To be fair: Violence in the Quran

vs: Violence in the Bible

I don't want to continue this argument anymore. It's pointless. Like I said, every religion has the good, the bad, and the ugly. Whether you want to follow the good points or the bad is entirely up to you. Every religion basically teaches compassion. Religion is simply a code of conduct. As far as I'm concerned, if one's found connection with a higher being, whether it may be God, Gods, or a Bodhisattva, and if one is satisfied with it, then what right does another have to denounce him as a heretic and fool? You are making yourself look a little foolish, my friend, and you must learn to be a little tolerant in life, or your own words will come flying back at you on your face.

It was pointless to bring up a hate-site and expect me to pay any attention.

But I agree, this is pointless. It was a good argument while it lasted.

In a country like Yemen I believe it is tribal law that will determine these kinds of arrangements. A daughter that would go against her father and refuse to marry or void the marriage or have an affair with someone he did not approve of makes the father look bad and besmirches the family name. That is the basis for many of these "honor killings".

A 10 year old child is assumed not capable of giving consent to marriage because their brain has not sufficiently matured to make adult decisions with an adult viewpoint. They are now also finding this out about adolescents as well. Sexual maturity doesn't equate with adult maturity.

I disagree. I recall reading a newspaper last year of 10 year old New Jersey kids having unprotected group sex in front of all their classmates when their teacher was not present. I think that was a rather mature and stupid decision. :?

If they can choose to have sex, they can choose to get married. For the record, I had my first crush at the age of 10, and my sister had her first crush at the age of 6.

Also, there are still shotguns totting fathers in the west searching for that bastard who stole his (mature, adult) daughter's virginity. Bible belt, anyone?

All of this does nothing to validate child mariage. What's wrong with marrying a fellow adut? I ask you, what's wrong with having sex with someone in your age-group?

Regardless of the differences in cognition at varying maturity levels, a Muslim girl becomes accountable for her actions at the age of physical maturity and she has the right to marry. The point about her father or male relatives not respecting her decision is a good one and that is not from our religion, but it should be addressed through our religion, not through (for lack of a more accurate term) "Western" values. (In regards to one of the previous posters, I reserve the right to bring Islam into everything for that is its place, and I thank you kindly.) You can advise a tribal leader in Yemen with the words and actions of the Prophet (saws), but you will get nowhere with feminist invective, unless you have the military might to impose it on him.
