Which elephant species? In fact, not all elephants are the same species, the Asian "elephant" is close to but totally different species than the African "elephant". (ie. donkey and horse). If they interbreed, their offspring would be sterile.

Another mammoth undertaking topic
My idea for this was not as clear as i thought...I was referring to a case in which a fetal mammoth would be cloned from what ever DNA was available and then inserted into the closest available species, (I guess the African elephant) hoping it would take root and be born. If there is another way, I suppose it would be better?
Resurrecting species is iffy at best. I remember some time ago researchers were trying to resurrect the dodo and a species of Tasmanian Devil that had not been seen in a century.
Extinction happens all the time without our knowing it. I would hope common sense would prevail in this matter.
