One thing I hate about living in the midwest is having people like this around...as if we're all christian or even have religious beliefs.

Not all Christians- not even most Christians- are like that, even in the Midwest.

The only good thing about this is, at least he makes himself obvious rather than preaching "Jesus loves you." Most people here con you into believing that and then you go to their church and you hear hints and incitements of hatred toward people who are homosexual or don't follow their religion.

My church is not like that at all.

Yes but there's a good number of them here that're like that...from my own personal experiences.

It's still pretty conservative from within the majority...and that's pretty obvious when you take into acount the political polls here as well.

There are a number like that, but don't stereotype an entire segment of the population like that.

As far as political polls, the entire Midwest voted blue in the last election.

What is this the PPR forum?

I hate to say this but where I'm living there have been a number of old timers who think of Bush as god's messenger.

<politically incorrect>

I'm not trying to stereotype but there is somewhat of stereotype here within our community's churches namely the Baptist ones especially...even if that does seem bias to you.

May not be like that for all christians but in my experiences it's been practicallly similar to this case with the churches and people I've run across.

So was the speech of Moses. He said terrible things about muderers, killers, thieves, adulterers, liars and those who covet. He even put people who liked statues of calves to death. And look what Moses did to Korach and Dathan for even objecting to the high handed behavior of Moses.

Put this in context: We will bar someone from travellinghere for what are considered homophobic views. We will do it for "islamophobic" views. But we allow schools to teach that "the one who plays chess is as the one who dips his hands in swines blood" (amongst other delightful expressions) and other anti-christian, anti-western philosophies, and we fail to remove those who are a danger to our nation.

Exactly who is controlling our borders here?

That does seem to come off as a bit of a double standard

I am willing to bet that the families who's had their loved one's funeral picketed on are going to have a mass party at Fred's funeral.

Fred's family will have the nerve to call the cops or do something else to 'justify' keeping people from harassing his funeral.

I am glad that the UK have excluded Fred Phelps, I think that the UK is better off with out that bigot.

I think that the way to deal with Fred and his merry crew is to pass laws banning any protest within 200 meters of a funeral, wake or related activity. If plenty of places pass such a law then it would greatly limit the activities of Fred Phelps.

I have heard that a family in the US have been trying to sue Fred Phelps or his "church" for the upset it caused when they had a funeral picketed.

This is Australia, we are not used to this kind of public display of hatred (we had a mini race riot 3 years ago where a couple of people got black eyes and we are still talking about it 8) ) If these idiots do turn up today someone might cause his funeral

Same with Canada, there was a funeral that he wanted to picket, but Canada would not allow him.

I really do hate that man. I went to the same middle and high school as Matthew Shepherd, so Phelps would hold a rally at the community college each year celebrating the anniversary of Shepherd's death. It brought me limitless rage, but I still have to agree that we cannot infringe on his freedom of speech in the US. However, I'm perfectly fine with other countries barring him from entering.

They aren't Christians at all. Even extreme fundamentalists dislike them. They spawned from Christianity, but in reality they are a sick, evil, malicious, cult.

^^ Seconded.
