You can get arrested for making "frivolous" phone calls in NYC, too. This would certainly be under the category of "frivolous" call.

My country has not-so-ancient history of turning churches into temporary hospitals... but you still need to provide staff.
Also, not so good for contagious diseases.

You can't really forsee the long-term impact on economies if the plague causes significant social changes (vide Black Death)

That concerns me more than the virus itself.

Yep...this will have a severe economic impact.

There are many different types of air purifiers.

The one I am using has the following features: an electrostatic collecting, ozone filter and activated carbon filter, powerful UV lamp and a negative ionizer.

So from the viewpoint of purifying the air of viruses and harmful bacteria - the UV lamp is critical. It is called UVC lamp, UV-C sanitizer, UV-C sterilizer, UV light sterilizer, UV LED. Most air purifiers do not have this feature. So I would recommend finding one with this feature.

The other feature is the ionizer (electrostatic collecting, ozone filter, negative ionizer). It ionizes particles within the air. I am not an expert but I would make the assumption [Ionic compounds are compounds composed of ions, charged particles that form when an atom (or group of atoms) gains or loses electrons. A cation is a positively charged ion; an anion is a negatively charged ion.) Covalent or molecular compounds form when elements share electrons in a covalent bond to form molecules.] that dust particles in the air are ionized which causes them to clump together and fall to the floor or be attracted to an ionic collector thereby removing them from the air.

The third feature is a activated carbon filter. This feature I believe adds a freshness to the air, in a similar way that a carbon water filter adds a fresh taste to water that passes through it.

Many of these air purifiers also have a HEPA filter. These are heavy filters that restrict air flow and have larger noisier fans as a result. So I picked a bare bones unit without this feature because I didn't need it and I wanted a whisper quiet filter instead. Some individuals are heavy smokers and they may need a HEPA filter, but I don't.

Oh, I don't think I have seen that one. But I went to thinking southpark because of an episode where all the parents got arrested and the kids made up the entire towns population.

I haven't seen that. Might have been inspired by the Star Trek episode. Or Lord of the Flies. Or both.

Favorite line from that Trek episode is, Kirk: "No blah blah blah!". No kidding.

Stargaze Atlantis has episode where anyone over 25ish is killed to stop enemy from finding them, started thousands years ago to limit population. So it’s a planet if kids.

Day One Under Quarantine

Yesterday President Trump issues guidelines which read in part:
IF YOU ARE AN OLDER PERSON, stay home and away from other people.

I am an older person, therefore I am under voluntary quarantine.

Today, White House Coronavirus Response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx said that all states should interpret White House guidelines pertaining to the coronavirus outbreak as “rules.” So maybe this is a mandatory quarantine.

Oh Nooooo! I do not know if I can take it any longer. I stayed home today and I think I might be going stir crazy. Normal this is my day for going to the YMCA and swimming a mile, followed by a trip to the movie theater to watch a matinee performance. But I am stuck at home. And this is only day 1. Think of it - it is only day ONE.

Oh! The Stress!

No flour in the store yesterday. I guess I will make my own. I have spelt, an ancient grain that was used before mankind discovered wheat. I will grind that up today to make flour so my wife can make some bread. She make good bread. The best stuff on earth. Bread made out of spelt reminds me of hobbit bread, very hardy good tasting bread.

Maybe I will invent a DIY (do it yourself) face mask. There is a lack of available face mask, so I will invent one. I will call it a sock mask.

Reminds me of the latest film version of Jules Verne's The Time Machine.

Just make sure you don't get the sock for your mask out of your dirty laundry bin.

Life at the epicenter of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been "greatly improving," San Francisco native and Wuhan, China resident Doug Perez said Tuesday.

"Yesterday, for example, we only had one new case of coronavirus — one confirmed case in Wuhan," said Perez. "So, the situation is greatly improving recently. And, we're optimistic that we're almost through it over here."

However, Perez noted that a quarantine is still in effect in Wuhan — as are a lot of restrictions for its residents.

"That being said, we're still dependent on deliveries and the delivery services have been very reliable. Recently we can access even fast-food services via delivery. Everything comes within an hour," he explained.

"So, actually, the situation has been improving a lot and life's starting to return to normal a bit recently. So, we're actually really happy about that," he told Mele. "But, prior to that, it was much worse."

Perez said that going to the grocery store was a constant struggle. But, even when you got there, they wouldn't let people in — experiences that were mentally "very tough" for him.

"My advice would be, of course, to stock up and be safe. Wash your hands," he cautioned. "But, I think if you keep a positive mindset and you focus on making it through it. Not leaving the house — complying with the quarantine. I'm really confident that the U.S. will make it through it."

I don't object to owning guns, I suppose in an economic crisis there would be a rise in crime. It seemed strange to me to see queues of people wanting to buy guns on a medical crisis.
