Somehow I doubt he is an NRA member, just like I doubt he is a Catholic.

Now you're bringing personal bias into the equation. Why do you doubt either of those things?

Republicans like guns. The NRA is all about guns. Therefore all NRA members are Republicans?

Catholicism is associated with the right. Michael Moore aligns with the left. Therefore Michael is not Catholic?

Who are you to doubt his religion?

It's his behavior that leads me to believe he is not a Catholic.

this breaking news...

Today Glenn went to great lengths to show how the 'liberal' media was using the events in Japan to further their leftist agenda. Reports about the potential nuclear meltdown was somehow a ploy to steal attention from the crisis of our own economy. Workers in Wisconsin were disgraceful for 'violent' protests against 'small, potential' civil rights infringements when the Japanese people were calm and orderly in the face of disaster - waiting patiently in line for food and water, no looting. Those WI workers (all liberals I suppose...) had decided to act more like an Egyptian mob and should take their cues from the docile Japanese.

HOW does this man not choke on the s**t spewing from his own mouth? How DARE he use the Japanese - in the midst of one of, if not THE worst natural disaster our world has yet recorded - as an example for anything REMOTELY political this close to the disaster. It is simply repugnant. They haven't even recovered the dead yet and he's using them as positive role models for our spoiled American workers? Pain, suffering, shock and a much different cultural climate doesn't even BEGIN to lend itself to this kind of political rhetoric. It's not apples and oranges it is simply right or wrong. This is so f*****g wrong. That right there is some of the most serious disrespect I have ever heard.

He talked about his NRA membership in Bowling For Columbine, and talked about his Christian/Catholic theology in Capitalism: A Love Story.
If you don't take my word for it, check out those movies on DVD, or just look him up on Wikipedia.

And you are stupid enough to believe it...

Seriously, it is a classic case of trying to falsely pump up his supposed credibility, it is actually classic.

As sad as it is, and despite his lack of tact, Glenn actually may have a point. There have been rampant death threats towards Republican Lawmakers, and even some people arrested in connection to the death threats. As sad as it is, there is nothing much we can do about the situation in Japan aside from donations at this point, a lot of people flying in or boating in to help could actually get in the way of rescue workers.

Actually, he is right, in the midst of a crisis situation the Japanese people are coming together not trying to rip each other apart. The Japanese quite honestly are not being docile, they are trying to keep from panicking because panic will make a bad situation and it is already a really bad situation a thousand times worse.

Inuyasha, you are truly amazing. You can ignore reality for the sake of partisanship. It is a fact that Michael Moore is a Christian, and an NRA member. As it is a fact that Glenn Beck is a pathological partisan snake oil salesman who can tell the gullible the most unbelievable lies, and use tragedy to make gains in ratings.
And no, I'm not stupid. I know the facts about Michale Moore. Just as I know the facts about Glenn Beck.

"Never let a disaster go to waste."

Who coined that one?

I'm not a defender of Beck, but a defender of people being called crazy with no medical assessment and no proof. Now, those familiar with the show, "My Name is Earl" may agree that Beck gets "Crazy Eyes" from time to time.

And, bringing Michael Moore into a rational discussion doesn't help any cause. Some may think Michael Moore is "crazy" and I'll defend him also. I don't agree with his politics but he is smart enough to make controversial movies that appeal to a subsection of the population that agrees with his ideologies.

After 20+ years of Liberal Dem. rule in Michigan, I wouldn't blame him for being a member of the NRA either. I think his next movie is going to be called "Bowling for Fahrenheit: Why Socialism is the Bees Knees".

Japanese society is different than other places. For example, when a Japanese soccer/basketball team wins the national cup their fans don't torch cars, loot and act like angry mobs as a form of celebration.

The point is - how does one, in any way, resemble the other?! The Japanese are not above a good political fist fight either... councilmen jumping each other in meetings duking it out live for the nation to see... How does a peoples reaction to ultimate destruction in anyway mirror the labor disputes in WI? It is belittling. I'm GLAD Glenn actually respects SOMEONE but in this case, his respect for the Japanese seems to be only because of the advantageous timing for his rhetoric.

He dug down deep to pull out some thread of connection. He started with a kindergarten version of 'nuclear meltdown 101' - he used M&M's. So, we went from M&M's to the left using the threat of nuclear meltdown to their advantage. Using this 'isolated incident' as a way to undermine the US power supply... Do you think he'll change his mind today, now that the threat of meltdown is actually a reality - in multiple reactors? Maybe nuclear energy can be dangerous... hmmmm... just a thought...

Yes, the Japanese people are an amazingly resilient lot. No one denies them their courage in this situation. They deserve more respect than being used as a talking point in political rhetoric that serves no purpose other than to inspire partisanship. Purposeful 'lack of tact' = s**t talk in my book. It makes good tv but thats about all its good for - entertainment value. Anyone basing their morals, values or ethics on this kind of scripted crap scares me to the core.

I'm not being partisan here, what I pointed out is actually a typical tactic of trying to falsely boost one's credentials to make it looks like their statements have credibility that they quite honestly do not have.

You would be saying the same thing I am if Rush Limbaugh said he was a Democrat and was bashing Democrats.

When had Michael Moore ever bashed Christianity? If anything, he has constantly advocated helping those in need - either as individuals, or as a society - in Christ's names.
As for his NRA membership - I understand he got his lifetime membership when he was a child, long before he swore lifelong enmity against such right wing groups.
So yes, he is in fact a member of the Catholic Church, and an NRA member.

A history of mental illness would be a good place to start when describing someone as "Crazy". Viewpoints that don't agree with personal politics really don't qualify for me. Simply saying someone is off their rocker is an opinion without much to back it up and only deflects discussions from the real issues. Notice how this post went from discussing the validity of a call for a Caliphate in the Middle East by some, which there is no denying, to the mental state of a conservative commentator.

I don't think most Aspies would like to be characterized as crazy simply because they dress differently or walk differently, or have different interests, or have different viewpoints... Notice, I have not called anyone stupid or ignorant or resulted to any other types of name-calling when the argument begins to break down which is a bullying tactic used by those that can't debate the issues!

If people want to ignore what is readily available on this Caliphate subject with even more coming down the pipeline that ties the public unions in some Middle Eastern countries with the latest political unrest, then that is their decision. No need to falsely raise one's credibility when their is plenty of credible evidence already out there. Maybe that is why conservative commentators fair much better in the realm of Radio and TV compared to their more liberal counterparts. Name calling is so High Schoolish.

It is more likely a result of how a fair majority of conservatives rely on radio and TV pundits and commentators as their primary source of opinions and information

The man mock-threatened his crew, on live tv, if they touched his M&M's. This, in the middle of a *very* serious explanation of the basics of a nuclear meltdown which utilized said M&M's. Let's just say his professionalism given the climate and seriousness of the subject he was presenting and the extreme lack of empathy was a touch 'crazy' to me... Gilbert Godfrey just got canned from Aflack for much much less. A duck's voice actor - held to a higher standard than a bastion of conservative values.

Oh, I don't dismiss the notion that insane people in the Middle East want to establish a world wide caliphate. But where Beck starts losing his mind on the subject is when he ascribes the motives of all rioters in Egypt and Tunisia to establishing said caliphate. Worst, he makes non-nonsensical leaps of logic, claiming that the Red Chinese want this caliphate established, simply for the sake of creating chaos. As a matter of fact, as an officially atheistic state, the last thing the Chinese want is to establish a fanatical religious power who would threaten them. And finally, Beck's assertion that American organized labor is connected to the goal of establishing a caliphate is purely right wing hatred of labor unions, and nothing more. And last time I checked, Chinese communists and American labor unions, as organized movements, are hardly motivated by hatred of Jews, which Beck has claimed.
