Who said anything about envy? Trust me, people in the arts as myself hold wealthy business types in contempt for their materialism and their lack of empathy, and would never want to be like them.
The starving artist thing comes off as pipe-dreamy and impractical. Anyone can write stories or songs or poems or paint or sculpt and many can play a musical instrument. The notion of being an artist and part of the arts really comes off as more of a fantasy type thing vocationally, outside of it actually providing a practical living or supplemental income in addition to a traditional job.
You think anyone can write, or sculpt, or play music? THEN f*****g WRITE SOMETHING CREATIVE, OR PAINT, OR SCULPT, OR SING AND PROVE ME TO BE THE WASTE OF WORKING ORGANS YOU THINK ME TO BE!
You forget, the arts require genuine talent, which I am thankful to God every day that he blessed me with. That's something I bet you don't have.
Like most anyone who has been in grade school I have written, sculpted and painted. My parents have a collection of my artworks which to them are no doubt priceless. It seems to me being genuinely talented in the arts is quantified by how much money one makes off it. As far as I can tell that is about the only thing that separates an artist from someone who has a hobby. And seriously, you are going to play the 'waste of working organs' line on someone like me? I am pretty sure lines like "waste of working organs" and "useless eater" apply to me more than those I see using it. Yet I myself do not use such lines.
I am not trying to put you down btw. I have plenty of respect for artists and the arts. I just do not see the practicality in being a starving artist vocationally. Especially when it entails animosity towards those who are financially successful. But then again it really seems to depend on where the financially successful are politically as to whether being successful makes someone good or evil in your eyes.
I have no animosity toward more financially successful artists as I'd like to join their ranks someday.
Lovecraft and Van Gogh had been starving artists with little success till both had achieved fame posthumously. Charles Bukowski and William Burroughs achieved fame only relatively late in life. While I am a starving artist, I may yet make my mark before I pass on. And even if I don't, at least I followed my dream and did what I wanted. I blame no one for my lack of financial success, but I will not be criticized because I've chosen to follow my heart.

I meant financially successful people in general. Or is it just business people?
I have nothing against one following their heart. But it seems to me that unless one is making a living off whatever, it is more of a hobby than a vocation. A lot of times when reading the bio of an author it says they quit their job after becoming successful to write full time.
I'm currently reading a series of detective novels written by Earl Emerson who was a Seattle firefighter the whole time he cranked out about 25 books. Although he may have retired from the SFD somewhere along the way since it says he is 71 now.

That's hardly trolling, it's offering relief to anyone who may be suffering.
Isn't that what altruism is all about?
And obviously you can see it (I can) so the link aint broke.

Back to the minimum wage thing. These jobs are stepping stone jobs, not ones to build careers on. What do you see behind the counter when you go into a fast food establishment? Usually adolescents. If fast food is the only opportunity where you live then save up and move someplace else or join the armed forces.
You pay someone $15 per flip burgers and suddenly those burgers become considerably more expensive and people stay home and have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and tater chips instead. The fast food joints start closing their doors due to lack of revenue and people are unemployed. What kind of a solution is that? Not to mention that it will kill small upstart business where the owners sometimes can't even afford pay themselves that much. No one will even try anymore.
So much for claiming to be for the working class stiffs and small businesses.

There are doubtlessly countless people who make little or nothing off of their art but are considered professionals at what they do. I've been published (finally), but I have no illusions about being anything else but poor. In fact, while Stephen King and James Elroy are millionaires, most published writers live below the poverty line. I'm definitely in that second group.
I'm talking about business people. And admittedly I shouldn't have painted all businessmen and women with the same broad brush. But too many are the type to believe in social Darwinism, or if religious, the prosperity gospel.

There is nothing wrong with that link. Now go order some and apply it liberally.
Actually, the link was broken for me, too, until about 5 minutes ago. Here is the link in question:
https://memestatic.fjcdn.com/pictures/D ... 152290.jpg
I wonder what FJCDN is. When I type in fjcdn.com, I get a 403 Forbidden error. So, maybe it's some top secret conservative web forum that Raptor and Ezra like to post on?

Trump and his fan club are going to be needing that after the next election.

So, then, mere minutes ago, either you or Raptor fixed the permissions so that it would show on WrongPlanet. Because before that, it was like this:

EDIT: Or, to put it more precisely, so that it would show for someone who isn't already authenticated for that web server.
