Agreed though I would say Asians living in the US feel a common bond. The only first person accounts I get of people feeling unsafe are from the Bay area though I don't know any Asians well in NYC or Atlanta.

Where I live I don't know any Asians who personally feel less safe. Most say they feel better accepted than ever.

I assume you are talking about east Asians feeling a common bond. My wife is Malaysian Indian and there is no bond there. Infact they are not even considered Asian in her home.

No, I meant all Asians.

Even though I get labelled leftist and woke I have to agree with this. So far zero evidence this was a hate crime based on race. The killer admits he used the services of the girls he killed so if he was a racist wouldn't he have been seeking blonde hookers rather than asian girls for sex?.

Racists can f**k people they consider less than them. I mean, there's transphobes who f**k transgender individuals and plenty of misogynists are straight men, why wouldn't racists being able to f**k people they're prejudiced against? Perhaps the prejudice might even be part of the draw.

I'm waiting for an evaluation of the killer but nothing so far suggests he had a "hatred" of Asians. He might have hated he had an addiction to getting happy endings after a massage. Going down the rabbit hole of why he killed these girls is going to open another can of worms as to why there are so many of these massage places all over the western world (I count about 10 within 5 min from where I live) employing women on visas who seem to be coerced into this profession.

Those excerpts from sermons express pretty standard views of Christians. I'm not sure how they are relevant in any way to this potentially being a hate crime against Asians. This seems like a standard attack by this pseudo-media outlet on people of faith.

Did the shooter ever state that the motive was racism?

He says it wasn't. At this point I am not sure if we can conclusively determine his motive. His word alone should not be enough.

The fact he was choosing "happy endings" with Asian girls rather than "white call girls" (and willing to pay them) would be evidence for me that he's not racist.

Well the lustful bigot is a thing, epically with the "I hate that they are tempting me".

People seem determined to make it a hate crime regardless of motive.

Yep. That's modern social justice. Divide them up by skin color, gender, religious beliefs and sexual orientation and determine motive and guilt based on bigoted preconceptions of those groups without the consideration of actual evidence.

He went there armed.
He went there to kill people.
So the people he killed were female and Asian and worked in a massage business.
He committed multiple counts of premeditated murder.
Murder should be punished.
If people are more outraged by the deaths of victims in stores or schools, that is not right.
If people are focused on the victims’ race, that is not right.
They were murdered.
He deserves the maximum punishment.

People seem determined to deny hate crimes regardless of evidence.

Hate implies motive. So you KNOW his mind and his motive? Why bother with a trial?

Whatever his motive, he left his home with a loaded weapon, intending to kill people with it.
He did so.
That is first degree.
That is maximum penalty.
There cannot be different penalties if the victims are minorities, lower income, immigrants, or work in high risk jobs.
